5.1 Sound Problem?

I recently got a 5.1 setup (Logitech Z-5450, wireless baby, woo!), and I was anxious to play HL2 on it. I hooked it up and got it revvin', the speakers sound fantastic. However, I have an issue...

I cannot hear sounds that come directly from behind me in the game. If someone is talking and I have my back turned to them, I cannot hear them at all no matter how close I am. Is this normal? It is very annoying, but I don't want to go back to Stereo because everything sound so fantastic in surround.

I am running in Dolby mode, and I have an ASRock mobo with onboard AC97' sound, my drivers are up to date. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it just crappy hardware, do I need a new sound card? Or is this normal behavior? Any help would be appreciated!

You should invest in a sound card, yes. If you want to fully appreciate your 5.1 setup, ffs get a sound card.

Regardless of your hardware, as long as it supports 5.1, you should be able to hear stuff from behind you. This is a problem not a poor performance, Joule.

that should support 5.1 sound no problem. is the 5.1 set up in your ac97 audio configuration settings and in the hl2 audio settings?
