Tried a quick search and didn't get an answer. I'm currently using a creative 2.1 system, provides very nice sound but my new comp has onboard 5.1 sound, is it worth me getting a news set of speakers for HL2? i can get a set of 6.1 creative speakers for £45 so i'm fairly tempted. are all 5.1 sound systems compatable with all 5.1 computer outputs? cheers

Hmmm, lots of questions, I'll try to answer them.

5.1 is definetly worth it if you get a good deal on them, but they're not worth paying like $150 in my opinion.

6.1 isn't much better over 5.1, but if you want to pay that much, then sure.

As far as I know, all 5.1's should be compatible with the i/o, using mini rca connectors (like what headphones use).

thanks for that, i should have said the 6.1's i'm looking at are 5.1 compatible (they mix the front two speakers to get the centre volume) and are cheaper than the equivelent 5.1 system - even with the horrific exchange rate they are only about $80 and they are a brand i trust:)

I recommend Logitech z640 speakers, i have them, they are very good. when your pc os configured with latest drivers etc. Surround sound in hl2 isn't great though... im not sure if thats because of mine being onboard surround but i havent noticed many fantastic effects.
Only once i heard a zombie behind my and literally turned around... lol

haha, i did that at a friend house, looked around and realised the screen hadn't followed:D i'll check out the logitech range, just i've never had any problems or anything with creative so i'd prefer to stick to them unless i find a massive bargain
