My brother (i have 5) gave me his old 19" flat screen monitor yesterday, since he got a new one. ( i had a 17" )

Its about a year old. Its so much easier on my eyes since everything is a little bigger
Here is a review of it. http://www.dansdata.com/955df.htm It got a really good review
Its a Samsung SyncMaster 955DynaFlat 19" monitor with .20mm superfine pitch. Really sweet monitor. Even more sweet since i got it for free. w0000000t

Anyway so i decide to try it out on some games.

I started up half-life2, and steam downloaded new content (hadn't played it in a long time) The steam downloader highly recommends that i download a new video driver.

So i try. and Ati is not responding. so i use www.Filecloud.com and download Ati catalyst 5.9.

I think i was using 5.1. I hadn't upgraded my video driver since before i bought WoW 6 months ago.

Anyway WoW runs much much better now. i went from 800x600 to 1200x720 resolution, and it runs much better than it did in 800x600 with the old driver. Particularly in places like booty bay, where before, my framerate was so bad it would give me headaches (like 6-20 fps) now like 18-28.

well thats 18-28 fps in the most taxing areas in the game. it is usually 30-45 fps in WoW. but i refuse to use anything less than the highest rez textures in any game.

I didnt buy my PC for games, it was an afterthought. I had just bought my first PC and thought i might see if it could play some games. I saw Half-Life2 on the shelf (it had just be released) and was floored by the screenshots on the box. I had to hide the fact that I had wood and thought to myself,"i must have this game."

but my PC turned out to only accept PCI cards, otherwise I would have bought the best video card available to the public.
There isn't much selection when it comes to PCI cards. becuase its all but been phased out.

In any case, HL2 plays pretty good

The following Launch option / Console command is the key to the game running well for my PC:
heapsize 524000 +map_background none +mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 0 +mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 0 +mat_mipmaptextures 0

eMachines t2893
celeronD 2.66ghz
radeon ATI 9250 PCI 256MB
1024 MB RAM

The 5.10s are awesome... I got a good 5-10 fps boost in F.E.A.R. (and that's a very conservative estimate).

5.10s don't have Adaptive Anti-Aliasing, so they're by default not as good as 5.9
