5 pirates and a 100 ducats

Okay, 5 pirates have to divide a 100 ducats. You have pirate number 1, number 2, number 3 and so on.
They have decided they will devide it in the following way. They will start with letting pirate number 5 make a suggestion as to how the ducats should be devided among themselves. Now if the majority agree with him, they devide it and thats that. If the majority does not agree with him then he is killed. And they let pirate 4 make a suggestion.

Now you do have to keep in mind, that
A) these pirates are very, very blood thirsty.
B) they are greedy, their greed exeeds their blood thirst
C) and they are ,for the sake of this riddle, very very smart, forwardthinking and perfectly logical.
Now the question is, how will the pirates divide the ducats and how many of them will be left when the final deal is agreed upon.
 
I've done this before, can't remember what my solution was though :(
 
I dunno that's sort of inhuman.. these pirates are more like killer robots. I still stand by 20 for each if they're real people.
 
Dunno underestimate the power of the pirates.
 
What's with this school/intelligent/math stuff nowadays...I feel so left out when they roll through.
 
They disagree untill there is 2 left, then one Pirate says he takes it all. Since there is no majority to over-rule him he gets it all?

Untill now you have been all wrong.
Just remember that the pirate gets killed if the majority does not agree with his suggestion. So there doesn't need to be a majority that disagrees with him for him to die, just 50% or more that disagree's with him.

Second, bloodthirsty means, that the other pirates won't have another pirate killed only if it means they get less money or if they get killed themselfes. So they like to see eachother dead. So even if lets say there were only 2 pirates and the second let the first have all the money, the first would still let him die.
 
This is ridiculous though, real pirates would have split it evenly.
 
None. Each pirate gets pissed and stabs the one right next to them (I failed to mention they are in a circle so pirate 5 gets stabbed by pirate 1, etc..).

And Nat I know it is in essance rediculus. But it needs to be this way for the riddle to work. Rememeber the riddle could have been done with other things then pirates. They are there just to make a little more fun, but nonetheless only there to serve the purpose of the riddle.

Each pirate will get 0 because chuck norris will round house kick them to the face and take their money.
 
Ninjas come and kill them all.
The Ninjas then cannot decide how to split it between themselves and become super-ninja-pirates and rule the world. The end.
 
Hint: The best way to solve this riddle is to work out systematically what would be done whne lets say, there was only one pirate. Then go on to what would happend when there were only two pirates, and what when there were only 3 pirates.
And remember the pirates are smart and forwardthinking, so in the case of this riddle pirate number 5 has allredy systematically thought out what would happen in those cases and so have all the others. Remember smart, and forwardthinking.
 
Pirate 5 lets Pirate 4 decide, then Pirate 4 lets Pirate 3 decide, etc..

Then Pirate 1 decides to keep them for himself. :P
 
Pirate 5 splits it 3 ways. He and 2 others agree, that only leaves 2 left to disagree.
 
It's the trick to keep as much money yourself as possible. Don't spill a single ducat.
 
Pirate 2 gets all, becouse when he makes the suggestion only he and pirate 1 is left and pirate 1 does not make a majority.

I reckon this is right.

Although it could also be pirate 1 or 2 gets all the money, the majority disagree until it's just them left, and while one is counting the money, the other one stabs him.
 
If Pirate 5 chooses a fair split would be 20/20/20/20/20
Pirate 4 it would be 25/25/25/25
Pirate 3 it would be 33/33/33 (ish)
Pirate 2 it would be 50/50

So in order to get Pirate 4 and 3 to decide to go with his plan, he would need to offer Pirate 4 25 ducats and Pirate 3 33 ducats. Leaving him with 42.

Pirates 1 walks away cause he doesnt wanna die. Pirates 2 and 3 kill 4 and 5 so they get more gold. Piratess 2 and 3 fight to see who lives and get the gold. Pirate 1 takes the gold while they are fighting.

I do not want this to drag on to long, cause then it ceases to be fun, unless you all want it. So if you want I can come back in lets say 10 to 20 min and post the anwser, and you can figure out the logic behind it.

Pirate 5 decides pirate 4, 3, and himself should split the money so no one dies because pirate 1 and 2 are not in the majority if they vote no or yes..

To be honest this is a pretty dammed easy riddle compared to ones I seen on this forum which got solved. There are a lot of math whizes on this site who could solve it easly.

The correct anwser:
All 5 pirates survive. Pirate 5 takes 97 ducats, pirate 3 gets 1 ducat. And either pirate 1 or 2 gets 2 ducats.

And is it me or can't you put spoiler tags around your text anymore.

and is it starting from pirate 5 to pirate 1 or pirate 1 to pirate 5?
 
From 5 to 1. And it's perfectly logical if you take the time to think about it. It help to think about it, the way I described in my hints. 'c mon people I made it so easy.
Now about those spoiler tags so I can post the anwser in spoiler because I may be forced to go off the net soon and won't be back untill tomorrow.

Cause they want to live (Grey you forgot to mention that). Pirate 5 is the one with the money (in the explanation that Grey Fox is about to give :)).
