512MB, 1GB or 2GB

I noticed a huge difference when I upgraded from a 512mb stick to 1gb. Much, much better loading and framerate in some games.

I have two GB but, meh, I got a good deal on it.

I say 2gb is well worth it, considering that I get bad stutter in BF2 if I set textures to high. I can run every other setting maxed out, even with 4xTRAA and 16xAF, but I cannot use high textures, its really quite stupid.

I'm considering getting 2GB of RAM. I currently have 1GB that I've had for over 2 years but it's only PC2700. Instead of just getting 1GB of PC3200 I thought I might as well take the plunge and get 2GB. It's at a resonable price of £150 for two 1GB sticks. Not that cheap but not too expensive either.

I doubt it'll bring great benifits but I use a lot of graphical programs like Photoshop/Corel Draw and 3DSMAX.

I asked for 1GB of ram for Christmas, hopefully 1.5GB will make a difference in loading in BF2 and any other game :)

I got 2 gig, but only because I got a good deal on it. If they werent on such a great sale, I would have ended up getting 1gb of some slightly better stuff.

I got 2GB, because the university paid for it. :P

I don't think there is any need to upgrade to 2Gb if you currently have a pc with 1Gb in it, but i think if you are building a new pc anytime soon then it would be reasonable to buy 2Gb (2 x 1Gb) straight off, rather than get a couple of 512 sticks and then have to add another couple of sticks later to get 2Gb.

Word...

that article doesnt say if 2 gig sticks are faster than 4 512's

upgraded my ram from 512 to 1g although I now have a problem with CS:S crashing like crazy. Giving some funky error making me thing something is wrong with the ram stick where nothing is probably wrong with it. Speaking of which I might have to make a thread about it.

Also, maybe try using the new one only and take the old one out for a bit and then switch just to see if there is some compatiblity issue.

It all depends on what you do. Like Asus said, multitasking is really a memory hog. Along with programs like photoshop. MMORPGs also love ram, with Everquest 2 experiencing hard drive thrashing even on 2GB of RAM (along with BF2).

Also as has already been said, you should put 2GB into a new system as it will be especially needed soon.

well I order the same exact ram stick that I ordered before. The only difference I noticed was the latency. One was 3-3-3-8 the other (the one I added) was 4-4-4-8. I can't use memtest since my floppy drive isn't working and I can't seem to run it off of CD in WINXP.
