Ive found these for bascially the same prices which is better and preferably why:

Barton L2 cache 512k Amd 3200+ xp @ 2.2 GHz

Or

3200+ 64bit Newcastle L2 cache 512k @ 2.2
(might get The 3400+ @ 2.4)

Any input would be great

62 bit huh? that sounds 2 bits short of a processor to me!!

Just kidding!! First you need to check what processor your motherboard supports (unless you're planning on buying a new mobo too?).

:naughty:

new mobo ram n cpu

Ram = OCZ ddr 400 2.5 235 ish i thinks will be fine

In that case definitely go for a 64bit CPU (for an explaination of the difference between the two technologies check out this article).

However, if you're going to go for a 64bit system, i'd advise you to look at the Socket 939 processors rather than the Socket 754 processor you picked above. Also try to pick one of the newer Winchester core CPUs (3000+, 3200+ and 3500+ all on S939) which are based around 90nm tech rather than 130nm tech used in S754 CPUs. This results in them generally running faster than their S754 equivalents and they also require less power, run cooler and are much more open to overclocking.

Be careful of the Socket as the CPU and motherboard have to match.

You cannot compare GHz and L2 cache between different CPU cores.
The Athlon 64 2800+ (1.8GHz 512L2 cache) can beat the Athlon XP 3200+ (2.2GHz 512L2 cache).
Athlon 64 is better.

Im not that much of an idiot Asus

But ta for looking out for me all the same!

Looks like im gunna grab some kind of 64 bit machine not sure wether im going for 939 of 754,

i think i hear sumwhere that 754 are gunna be the new sempron (duron) Platforms and arent gunna be as great a s939

woop :D

Yeah, if you grab a Athlon 64 S939 (90nm) 3000+, 3200+, or 3500+ CPU then a Thermalright or Thermaltake heatsink you will be set. ;)

And if you want to jump on the PCI-Express bandwagon then wait for nForce4 SLI and grab a PCI-Expres gfx card.

lol,
right now is a horrible time to build your PC... many different reasons,
Nvidia and ATi are battling it out,m so they are releasing buggy drivers, Technology is really changing and 2 of something are coming out, so you must find out which is best, PCI-E and PCI-X also just if you buy a pc now, you may be disapointed... Dual Core Processors... etc, lol

await the nforce 4 SLI board and get a s939 cpu and you'll be set for a good few years :)
