my brother is about to get a new 200 dollar card (thats right not no x800 plat.) anywho..i got a 9800 pro and really like it im just wondering if the new 6600 agp version coming out is better or worst..can someone maybe give me a comparsion of details of both cards, like the core speed and memory speeds...and maybe some benchmarks for these cards..thanks

The 6600GT is better, the AGP will be out soon, here's some benchmarks:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2196

The 9800 pro specs:
Core speed: 380mhz
Memory speed: 680mhz
256-bit memory bus
8 pixel pipelines

The 6600GT specs:
Core speed: 500mhz
Memory speed: 1000mhz
128-bit memory bus
8 pixel pipelines

But not worth upgrading from a 9800 pro to 6600GT, save up for a 6800GT or X800XT PE.

this isnt for me its for my brother who doesnt have a nice card (currently a fx5200) anyway what about the 128 memory bus? isnt the 9800 pro 256?

also the 6600 gt is pci-express right? will that dramatically change performance when it goes to agp? and is this card $200?

Oh it's for your brother and he has a 5200 in that case definitely a worthwhile upgrade, it's an awesome card, no difference between PCI-E and AGP, and 256-bit is like the bandwidth of the memory, the 9800 has 256 the 6600GT has 128 but the 6600GT makes up for it with its much higher clock speeds and it's much better than a 9800 pro, get the 6600GT AGP.

allright thanks for the posts ill try to convice him, but he has had his eye on that 9800 pro, because he thinks that the ati is made for hl2 and will do better in hl2 then nvidas but we might be wrong

Show him the benchmarks, I dunno, the 6600GT beats the 9800 pro by a good amount in every benchmark, it is better in every way! And the 6600GT does fine in HL2, it either does as good or better than the 9800 pro, it's not an FX card, it can run HL2 well.

Just FYI, CS SOurce Beta, Full everything, with -

Athlon 64 2800+
1gig PC3200 DDR
Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB

I get 50-100 FPS. No problems at all with it, GREAT card for the price. Especially on newegg.

the "new" x700 should be about 250$, not sure how it compares against the 6600gt though (google it! :p)
