Can i please see what the details of the base model, the ultra, and the GT are. WHich is higher the gt or the ultra? and what are the major differences?

The Ultra, is obviously the faster card. I'm pretty sure the GT doesn't require two molex connectors as the Ultra does. And I could be wrong but I thought that the GT does take up two slots.

No. Not two AGP slots (no system has two AGP slots!). Besides, it depends on the company. I don't believe any of them take up 2 slots, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say I could be wrong :)

Anyhow, the standard version is 128MB. And much slower, and less pipelines

isnt there a standard with 256? that doesnt have more pipes does it?

The standard 6800 has 12 pipelines. There is no standard 256MB one, as far as I know.

6800 Ultra has 16 pipelines with a higher clock than the 16 pipeline 6800GT.
IMO the performance difference is not worth 100$ at all. They perform nearly identical in most games actually.
If you would really like the 6800 Ultra performance you can simply OC the card.
Both have 256MB.

The 6800 is a 300$ card which only has 12 pipelines and runs at a lower clock speed.
On average, it is better than the 9800XT but in quite a few games it actually is only equal to the 9800XT. The 6800 has 128MB of memory.

This might be slightly outdated, but it gets the point across:

the 6800gt has 16 pipelines with a core clock of 300 and memory of 1000

the 6800ultra has 16 pipelines with a core clock of 350 and mem of 1100

the difference being 50 core clock and 50 mem clock not worth the extra cash as a lot of people are finding that they can OC to ultra speeds!

That's something which caught me off guard.

When I was pouring through graphics cards (in hopes I might pick up a new one soon) The 6800gt was at the top, or near the top of my choice.

Out of curiosity, I looked up the ultra to see what made it $100 more than the GT only to see it was 50/50MHz difference. I thought, "There has to be more than that!" But never found any other difference.

I was fairly shocked. Why spend $100 for 50/50MHz when most people can just oc that out of the GT anyway?

GT is the way to go between the two, for sure.

I would definitely get a 6800 GT, a lot cheaper and the performance difference with the Ultra is trivial.

the only issue some people may find is teh requirement for the 2 power molexs (should only be 1 for pci express as more power comes thru pci) some review sites have connected them with a splitter and its workedfine although they do recommend 2 seperate power molexs

Sorry I take it back, the GT only takes up one slot in terms of card size. I've decided pretty much that I'm going to get a GT over all of the 4 new generation cards, cause Ive been researching some benchmarks and it goes like this:

1) X800XT PE + 6800Ultra = too close to call.
2) 6800GT = second place.
3) x800pro = third.
4) 6800 = fourth.

Out of those cards I think you'd be a fool not to buy a GT if it can be easily clocked to Ultra speeds. There is the trust factor though, I don't trust Nvidia as far as I can throw them. I've been saving up for one of these four cards, and I'm still strongly leaning toward the GT, just because it has SM 3.0, 16 pipelines, and now only takes up one slot and requires one molex connector. I'll wait till the HL2 benchmarks are released before I make the purchase though.
