I currently have a 6800 128MB card. I think the 128MB is causing stuttering in my games so I was looking for a 256MB card. Would the 7600GT 256MB provide better performance over my 6800?

My brother runs a 7600GS 256MB and his PC runs Oblivion better than mine.

7600gt isnt a huge jump in speed but it does run it better. i recommend getting a 7900gs instead or an ati comparable card.

Thanks for the reply Giant. I am trying to keep the price down as much as possible so a higher end card isnt really an option. Unless I can find a great bargain somewhere, I think a 7600 is as far as my funds will stretch.
I know the 7600 is technically slower but will the extra RAM provide a noticeable boost?

the 7600gt is by far not slower and will be an improvement to the 6800 128mb you have now. the 7600gt is comparable to the 6800gt counterpart. you can get a 7900gs online for around 150 usd if you can stretch that. its really up to you though. also the ram helps alot in todays games.

7800 gt's should be dirt cheap now, you should get one

My 7900 GS 256MB is capable of running HL2 and Episode One at the highest settings, although it runs a bit hot.

7800gts are discontinued and all that is being sold is left over stock. besides the price of the 7800gts is still more then the 7900gs which is better.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I should have mentioned perhaps that i'm in need of an AGP card which limits my choices a bit and also tend to cost more than PCI-E cards. I'm currently bidding on a 7800GS 256MB on eBay so fingers crossed.

I just bought that 7950gt I listed, forget the 8800!
BTW I don't recommend the x1650, it's not an improvement of much. Better to save up.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Ive bought a 7600GT 256MB DDR3.
