6800 Ultra and LCD - DVI Problem?

Just got a new 6800 Ultra PCI-E w/ dual DVI output (no VGA output).

I was able to get it up and running on an old CRT monitor using a DVI-to-VGA adapter and the card runs great.

But when I try to use my LCD (Viewsonic vx2025vm) monitor - connecting DVI-to-DVI, I get no signal.

I haven't tried connecting to the LCD via analog - but if that does work, I don't really care because I want a digital connection.

A few misc. notes:

I know the LCD works because another PC running a Radeon x1600 runs great on it. And I know the video card works because it can output to a CRT.

  • Could it be a problem with DVI versions? That is, perhaps the monitor only supports DVI-D yet the card only outputs DVI-A?
  • Could it be a driver problem?
  • Could it be a jumper/setting problem?
  • Why would they sell a video card w/ 2 DVI outputs that doesn't work with a newer LCD monitor?

When did you plug the LCD in? Did you start the machine with the VGA plug and then switch to the LCD? or did you shut it down and then switched the monitors.

I've had that happen a few times before (not a VGA vs DVI issue) where the PC doesn't see the Monitor and I get no signal. Keep fiddling with it. Try both DVI ports? Maybe plug both VGA monitor (with adapter) and LCD in at the same time?

Good point

Good 'ol Asus! I knew you'd come through with a reply!

This one sure is a tricky one. I'm pretty sure I tried all of the above, but it was late last night and I could have screwed up the process somewhere. So I'll go try it again from scratch - a systematic approach is always good for problem solving.

I also think it may be a driver issue. I'm new to nVidia products - previously an ATI guy - and I'm used to getting drivers directly from ATI.

So in this case, I grabbed the latest ForceWare drivers directly from nVidia - not from the manufacturer of my particular card (LeadTek - blech!). Maybe that could have something to do with it?

Thanks again for the reply!

yes, you want to get the latest drivers drom Nvidia.....the manufacturer drivers are usually a couple months old.....

The other thing to try is drivercleaner (get rid of both ATI and Nvidia drivers) and then reinstall the Nvidia drivers. Might be a good idea to run it in safemode.
