Not sure what to do....I run every game fine, but seem to be stuck at 60 FPS in Counter-Strike and probably every source game......I just got the newest Nvidia driver without any change......I also have fps_max 300 set. What im curious about is that no matter what it is lmost always 60fps, whether im shooting or looking at the ground.......any ideas?

You'll have vsync on, which restricts your framerate to the refresh rate of your monitor. Turn it off both ingame and in your video card settings. You may notice tearing (whre the screen does not keep up with the framerate of your setup) but your framerate will be free to roam...

Thank you very much tweedy.....here's some candy

A little thing to note about your signature. It would seem that you are 2 generations ahead in saying that your card is a 9700gt. :P

And on a more serious note. I have the Cooler Master Wave Master and I've been thinking about getting the Praetorian. How do you like that case? Good airflow? Not very loud? Do tell.

haha....didnt even notice that. At least I have the best card there is :)

The case is great....very sturdy....it fell over once, didnt even restart....its a little louder than normal...but i got used to it. So no complaints.

How?
:D

60 frames is already gd. our eyes can only like 30 frams, i think....

I actually perfer Vsync on. No tearing and steady FPS. I don't like it when the game drops from 75FPS to 50FPS. If I use Vsync and it is going 60FPS constant then when it drops to 50FPS it doesn't seem like it is jerky.

I'm the same way....I'm not so much of a stickler for having to have an FPS of 80+...........mid 40s is high enough for me.....

I forgot that I use ATI's temporal AA (its awesome) and not just Vsync. If FPS dips with normal Vsync then it will cut it in half (30 FPS to maintain sync.

Hmm I hate when my fps drops under 40 in hectic situations (which it unfortunately does) in css. I prefer 60+. If it drops below 40 I can feel the 'drag' from the lagged mousemovement and it lessens the control over the situation, which in case most of the time results into a massive spray and ultimately death.

I get over 200 fps with VSYNC off and AA on......love it

What is your refresh rate set at? Cause you only see what your monitor displays.
An example is 85Hz refresh rate = 85 fps.

ya know, im not entirely sure, its an older monitor, so its not that great, but its just nice seeing over 200 fps on the graph :)

How do I check?

Is it bad for the monitor to switch to a higher rate? I was on 60 but changed to 75......not sure if thats smart, im getting a new monitor soon though......

Its not bad at all. You should always be running the highest refresh rate for the given resolution.

In the "Screen Resolutions & Refresh Rates" section of the nVidia drivers, check the box that "hides options not avaliable to this monitor" and pick the highest refresh rate. And I assume you mean refresh rate since response time is for LCDs and differs from refresh rates.

(And yes, I know I'm dumb for having an LCD with a max resolution of 1280x1024 with a 7800gtx.)

the highest is 200, thats not going to damage anything?

Edit....makes my screen go black :(

Hmmmm.....something sounds off. I'd leave it at 75 just to be on the safe side.
