I decided to look in my case to see how dusty it is and I realized that the little fan on my 9600 Pro has died. ;(

So I decided to fire up some games and none of them have any graphical glitches at all. And no, the fan doesn't turn on when I am playing games so my fan is surely dead. ;(

Do I need to be worried about my 9600 Pro overheating?

:dozey: If my fan died, I would. They put the fan there for a reason right? Even though your card hasn't any graphical glitches, without the fan most likely increases the heat on your GPU and we all know heat just kills your PC components, so without the fan it's probably going to die more quicker or sooner I should say.

I replaced my GF4 4200's fan when it stopped working. Just a simple Vantec GFX cooler for about 10-15$.

It is risking using an uncooled 150$ gfx card. It would be wise to replace the cooler otherwise if it did overheat then you would be 'fixing' it with another 150$ card.

Yep i would not use your computer again untill u get a new fan sorted, unless u dont mind frying ur gfx card :flame: and forking out for a new 1.

Well, I went and got a myself a new fan for my graphics card. It was only ten bucks and it is all copper. :)

It was only a little bit of an adventure taking off the old fan and cleaning the thermal grease off of the chip. Is there a proper way to take thermal grease off?

My graphics card is working perfectly. Anyways, thanks for the help. :)

You could have popped open the case used a house fan.

The best way to clean off the goop is with isopropyl alcohol. Nail polish remover works well too, but shy away from anything with a 80% or higher concentration of the active ingredient, that may eat away at silicon.
