my setting is
1024x768
mat_dx 81
everything set to low
shadow high

my fps is really unplayable.. around 25-30 in the map "anticitizen one"

my spec is no cheap one
2500@3200 barton
640 ddr 333
9550xt clock at 475/660 < alike 9600xt

and other map have low performance too but not quiet like this map

A run a real 9600XT at one res up from 1024x768 all max 2x AA 2x AF at DirectX9 and get 50fps constant, so somthings up :0

Try updating your drivers.

EDIT: My card is clocked a bit higher than yours and i'm running the DNA drivers but your CPU is a LOT faster than mine and you have more ram, so I guess that compensates.

Some programs are real picky about OC'ing and will get buggy real easy. I am not sure if this is the case w/ HL2 but turn the card to normal settings and see if it runs better. Just a thought.

You're cpu is holding it back.

HL2 is extremely cpu heavy - my Barton is running 400 mhz faster than yours and the frame rate still drops into the 30's on that level (and that's with a x800 xtpe)

More ram may help a little.

i get frames at 50-60 mostly, but parts that are real hectic i get like 30-40 with everything up, so is it really that unplayable for you?

wow, that seems to be the case. I just put everything on high and I get same performance as low.

This is ridiculous, barton 3200 can't kick this game

i wouldnt say 20-30 is unplayable anyway. Granted its unacceptable for that gpu, but still....

...

Should I turn down a bit or completely down to stock to see the effect?

meh my 9600XT sux at hl2 and i have the latest drivers aswell :( but my processor does suck but i might be grabbing a 2800 barton so i should hit 2.2 GHz and ill see if that helps
