9600xt w/ hl2 or 9800 pro?

Hi I currently have a P4 2.53ghz proccesor, 512 mb ram, and a
64 mb GForce 4 ti 4200

I was wandering what would probably be a better value- a $200 128mb Radeon 9600xt w/ hl2 (so its essentially 150$), or a $200 128mb Radeon 9800 pro with hl2 bought separate? I do want to have medium-high settings on too though so really what I need to know is how much faster and better the 9800 pro is compared to the 9600xt. Any help is appreciated.

The 9800 Pro will put the 9600 XT to sleep any day of the week. Take a look at some of these benchmarks here

If you do get the 9800 Pro, make sure you get the version with the 256 bit memory bus. If it doesn't say it has a 256 bit memory bus, don't get it. There is also a 9800 Pro with 256 MB of RAM for additional money; don't get it as the 256 MB version will not increase performance at all.

The 9800pro all the way.
While the 9600XT would be able to handle HL2, it is also very close to performance as your 4200 in DX7/DX8 games.
The 9800Pro would be the obvious upgrade choice.

I bought my 9600 XT from Newegg, and it didn't even come with a HL2 voucher :hmph:

They stopped the Half-Life 2 Radeon 9600XT voucher a while ago. May be lucky and get a old model that still came with the HL2 voucher.
