Hey, right now i have an ati 128 mb 9700 non pro. I have been looking at 9800 pros 128 and 256 mb. First question, will the ram make much of a difference? Also, how much better is the 256 version than the 128? I was also wondering what was the best manufacturer. Is ati , powercolor or sapphire the best? After explaining that stuff could you tell me one of the best places to buy video cards besides newegg? thanks i need the help

get a sapphire 256, u can then most probably falsh that to a xt, and save even more money

Sapphire are best, so I hear. The difference between 128 and 256 only becomes very apparent when you use very high resolutions and alot of AA and stuff, even then I don't think it's much and the price gap I don't think is really worth it. Clock speeds and all that junk are more important I think.

9800pro from 9700? Save and get a X800/6800, or wait for them to drop in price. If you're worried about HL2, that card should run it fine if you're willing to sacrifice a little detail.

You have a good card bud. Not a big difference in performance for the price. You have a full fledged card, basicly it's clocked just a little lower. It would be a better investment to buy a gfx card cooler and OC. :)

Or wait and save up for a better card as they drop in prices.

the 9700 Non-pro can easily be picked up to 9700 pro speeds and with soem decent cooling, Giant III or save VGA silencer and ram sinks, brought to beyond 9700 pro speeds. not to mention with newer games, the 9800 pro at high rest 1280x1024 with 4xAA 8xAF + will only get you noticable diff between 256 and 128, but you won't be able to play new games at those res, so 128 and 256 don't make much diff...just stay with the 9700 and oc..
