im buying a 9800 pro 128. While i was looking on newegg.com i found 3 possibilities. Though something was kinda odd....the ATI radeon 9800pro 128 has the spec in the description, but then as i scroll down more i see some sapphire 9800pro's. the price went up with this and it had this specificly added to its descrition. "SMOOTHVISION 2.1 delivers the sharpest, clearest textures without sacrificing frame rates." the ATi 9800pro 128 above it didnt mention that. And as i scroll down more i see another sapphire 9800pro 128 which also has a higher price, it has this added to its specs- "ATI SAPPHIRE RADEON 9800 PRO ULTIMATE 128MB" it added ultimate, but was still under $400, and said something about SMARTSHADER 2.1, which the others didnt mention.

whats up with this? Is the manufacture allowed to add enhancements? Is that what sapphire did? i want to get 9800pro 128, but when i saw this stuff it confused me on which to order

i assumed that the sapphire 9800 pro's were the same hardware just bundled with extra stuff. i dont know what the smartshader and smoothvision stuff were thats why im asking.

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=Radeon+9800+pro - the 3 i talked about are around the middle of the page

so dose everything have all the same performance, and just mentiond in some and not others?

ill put it simply......a 9800 pro is a 9800 pro...the only thing a manufacture might do is mess with the defualt clocks and some other stuff

the features of a 9800pro are all the same from all manufactures

:smoking:

/me exhales.......ahhhhhhhhhh

Yea....what he said.

well, sorry. I know that souned a little noobish but i have just never seen that before, sapphire adding that in the description. I selected the ATi 9800 pro 128 insted of the sapphire ones, if all of them are the same(like i of course thought before i saw that) then i dont really want any budled software considering i can just d/l it for free.

The only difference about the 2 Pro's and the Ultimate is the heatsink.

The Ultimate one has a huge heat sink on it that is supposedly(dont think i spelled that right) better than the normal cooling system that they have on them.

alright cool, i wouldnt need that kind of heatsink anyway, i will have 5 fans in my case.

bah, apparently the fan on my 9800 Pro was defective, woke up one morning and it sounded like a ****ing lawnmower

so, now i'm waiting for newegg to hurry up and repair it and send it on back to me

i won't be seeing my precious 9800 Pro until sometime Friday ;(

i hope you have a backup card to play games still! I got a defective card before. It was when i bought my Ti4200, i think i got an xtasy. But it freaking sucked, the first ti4200 i got was corrupt and defective, so after i tried to install it, it erased my harddrvie and buged up my computer to i had to reformat,. Xtasy or best buy shoulda bought me a new freaking pc for that shit. Pissed me off so much. I ended up getting a ti4200 made by albatron from pc warehouse.

yeah, i got a 4600 lying around here somewhere

The exact same, the Ultimate only comes with a kick ass heatsink. I just RMA'd my 9800 Pro, I shocked it and it died.. I hope they dont find out and just replace my shit.. it's still new. :(

I have an xtasy 4200 and its been fantastic - no problems, conflicts, anything. Probably the best and easiest hardware upgrade I've ever done. (that's not to say that your problems were your fault, just that when compatible, the xtasy 4200 works great, thats all.)

yea, i didnt mean the problem was because of xtasy or anything. Every brand makes a faulty card sometimes.

well, hey, this is cool, newegg is just gonna ship me a brand new card :cheese:

nice. What kind of shipping did you get? im curious on how long they take for standerd ground shipping.

Newegg ships fast from all accounts I've seen. They shipped me a grab-bag of parts standard ground shipping (fedex) in just 3 days. That's from California to Florida. I'm still waiting on a case ordered simultaneously from a different site based closer that uses ups! Anyway, my stuff (a mobo, ps, chip, ram, headset, heatsink, and some extras) was all neatly and wellpacked on all sides in a large, but not oversize box densly filled with padding chips. The cardboard corners were uncrushed, the box was clean. If newegg offers the lowest price, go for it. Newegg shipping speed and quality is not a source of worry!

LOL i hope thats not true. But i still hope the 3 days coast to coast ground is, because iv orderd rush dilivery AIR and its taken more than 3 days.

they ship replacement stuff in fedex express saver, 3-4 days, but in areas close to newegg hq, la puenta, CA i believe, it's not uncommon for their stuff to arrive in 2 days

lucky for me i live in Santa Rosa, CA
