9X, retire everything, this things a beast

id get distracted by the lines, although it is hella impressive to see

Yeah, if there wasn't a big thick line going straight over the crosshair it would be better.

Couldn't you just hook your PC up to a plasma-screen for the same effect?

Wouldnt it be more impressive to hook up your system to a projector screen to project a widescreen image of HL2 or Doom3 at 5 foot high by 9 foot wide?

Of course that would mean that you would have to play in the dark but in the case of doom 3 that would be awsome :p

will be unconfortable for the separation

and how big id that screen?
I hav see huge tv screens but thats looks really huge

It would be a lot cheaper too.

My friend has a 55inch HDTV and the big difference would be the resolution, his tv is like two years old and certain things just do not look good on it unlees you're at least 10 feet away.

More importantly, what kind of computer would you need to power 2 to 32 screens of HL2?

i cant play with more than one screen. looking over to the next takes the whole immersiveness out of it, due to there being a huge gap between the two screens.

The same one you're using now I'd think. You'd just need a (very) differant resolution.

But that would be half as cheap! ....

Problem is, most projectors don't have that great resolution, and you need a large surface to project onto. They do have fancy bulbs now that project bright enough to use with ambient light though.

But seriously, with all those divisions and a ridiculous price, a high-quality TV or projector is better.

First, you would need a way for fast video cards to interface with 32 monitors. Obviously, one AGP card won't do that. Assuming that you could find a high-end PCI Express or AGP gaming video card that has 4 outputs you would still need 8 of them in a single computer to handle 32 monitors. I would be incredibly impressed if you could find a motherboard has 8 AGP and/or PCI Express slots. So, for now, we're stuck with plain old PCI (except for on, at most, 4 of the 32 monitors). Currently, there is only one video card that supports 8 monitors. It's called the Xentera GT8 and its "poor 3D performance makes it irrelevant to gamers" as it runs on four Mobility Radeon 9000 chips. That's only half the processing power of a Mobility Radeon 9000 for each monitor. Yeah, you could technically get it to run HL2 on 32 monitors but would you want to do it if you had that kind of video card running at least 24 of the monitors? For the insane amount of money it would cost to set up a 32 monitor system it would run like crap, look like crap, or probably both. There's just no affordable or powerful way to run a game like HL2 using 32 monitors on a single home gaming PC. Even with all the money you would need to spend to build a machine like that, the results would still be lackluster at best.

Come back to this idea once we start getting motherboards with lots of 16x PCI Express slots and some über-powerful multi-monitor gaming cards to go with them... but by then will we still want to play 32-screen HL2 or will we be wanting to play HL3 on it?
