A new professional basketball league boasting rosters made up exclusively of white Americans has its eyes set on Augusta, but the team isn't receiving a warm welcome.

The All-American Basketball Alliance announced in a news release Sunday evening that it intends to start its inaugural season in June and hopes Augusta will be one of 12 cities with a team.

"Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league," the statement said.

Don "Moose" Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league's roster restrictions is not racism.

"There's nothing hatred about what we're doing," he said. "I don't hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like."

Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of "street-ball" played by "people of color." He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas' indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans' dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run.

"Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?" he said. "That's the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction."

Uh... I don't know anything about basketball or sports at all, but surely if a player is getting selected for a game, that means they need to go to a lower-ranking team or a lower league to get game time? Tough shit if that means most white players are in lower leagues than most black players.

I'm black, but it's hard to rage at retarded people. I think it's against the law or something. Regardless, racism is like the worst thing you can do in the United States these days. Committing even the most minorly offensive racist jesture is the equivalent of killing a thousand babies. Every person who has made racist comments in the past... let's say... 10 years... but more so in the last five or so... has basically lost everything.

Some examples: That sports radio host Ron Imus was fired for making racially charged comments about some basketball players.

Michael Richards (Kramer) became so unpopular for a few racial remarks at a stand up comedy show that he's basically fallen off the map despite apologies to the apparent liasons to black people, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

Basically any time anything like this happens, that individual is relegated to months or even years of the vast majority of America viewing them as ignorant dumbasses (redundant?). So basically I just leave it up to the throngs to hate for me. No reason to be up in arms over someone who's willing to destroy whatever reputation they have to try to accomplish a failed-from-the-start venture. This guy will probably get sued or something in the future for trying to be the new type of racist, the "I'm Totally Not a Racist" racist.

At least back in the 60s there wasn't any dancing around it... but I don't think I'm a big fan of getting firehosed and attacked by dogs.

They can go ahead and start their stupid league. Until then I'll enjoy the superhumans that currently dominate the actual NBA like Lebron and my wittle Allen Averson.

Segregated Basketball is only a problem if it's institutionalized in a way that doesn't make a complete mockery of itself
 
Just like whitey to form an "all-american" league and preclude native americans. Then again they'd probably just keep them all in reserves. :V

Women are also underrepresented in men's basketball. Something has to be done about this.
