okay im really nervous about getting my new computer because itll cost probably over $3000.00 and i want it to play hl2,doom3, future games..... on full settings(obviously), okay my questions are.....

1.is the geforce 6800 ultra faster than the nVidia GeForce FX 5900 Ultra.(noob question.)

2. is it true that geforce 6800 ultra has support for dx9.0c and the x800xt doesnt?!

3. what would the athlon 64 fx-53 be comparable to if it were a pentium?! and is it better for gaming than the pentium it compares to?!

4. what type of ram and how much would be good for the athlon 64 fx-53?!

5. i hate not having the fastest hardware, the fx-53 is the fastest, most best processor out now, right?!

all of the questions i got. thx!

1. yes
2. yes
3. It's faster than the 3.4EE
4. Anytype, 1 gig
5. yes

1. YES
2. Its actually that 1.) The 6800 supports pixel shader 3.0 and 2.) that the 6800 (this has nothing to do with DX9) has 16 rendering pipelines, rather than 12. But if your going to spend that kind of $$$ get a X800 Platinum, they smoke
3. It is faster IN GAMES than a P4 Extreme edition, but the P4 EE is faster in rendering and Photoshop
4. Get DDR 400 and do 2 sticks of 512mb
5. The FX53 is the fastest for what you want to do. . . Wish I could afford one!!!

Hope that helps man!

it helps a lot! but i have a question because you said to get an x800 platinum, will these be available in canada soon, and isnt the geforce 6800 ultra still better because they can support dx9.0c?!

Most of the time true but it still really depends on the task and application.
Rendering
Photoshop Performance chart
ahh, Performance measured in Seconds. fun stuff.

Compare the two green lines. 6800U using DX9.0b and 6800U using DX9.0c.

Does it really matter?

1. **** yes.
2.yes, but doesnt matter, dx9.0c isnt necessarily better than 9b
3.probably a p4 3.8EE
4. corsair xms pc3200 with 2-3-2-6 cas timings, thats what i have.
5. yes, i own one and if u get it you'll be lagging instead of the computer because its just so goddamn fast.

wow asus those benchies show the xt pe kicking serious ass. now im much more confident in my xt purchase cuz i was sorta shady thinkin i should went with the ultra.

I think more people are going to be satisfied that they got the 6800 rather then the x800xt.

mmm....thats debateable. personally i just like ati idk y. theyre incredibly reliable, and to me it seems they are more quiet and know what their doing, while nvidia is always running their mouth about their amazing cards. honestly u can say im ati fanboy but im really not, i just prefer* ati over nvidia atm. to me ati has more class about their cards. im sure im about to get flamed for this but its how i feel.

Jeez these people spending so much money on comps. I wish i had that kind of money to spend.

You hate not having the fastest hardware?? Ummm why?? You will be behind in a year or two, so don't go and waste too much money. Its questionable as to whether the FX53 is the fastest out right now, the P4 EE cpu's do a pretty damn good jobs themselves, in most things, yes the fx53 outperforms, but its so close, you probably wouldn't notice a difference.

Picel shader 3 wont be used to full advantage until really the next generation of graphics cards come out (maybe even 2 generations) pixel shhader 3 allows for longer "strings" (instructions - perhaps) your looking at about 32+64 for pixel shader 2 and 512 for pixel shader 2.0b but with pixel shader 3.0 you can have 512 and higher instructions... but to be honest your average game only uses around the 30 instruction mark... the only game i know of that will burst that instruction mark is a game using hte unreal 3 engine (not due out til 2006ish) and by that time your 6800ultra will be comparable to a 9600 maybe (by the next next gen graphics standards e.g. comparing a 6800 to a 9600 will be like a 8800 to a XI600) so really pixel shader 3 wont be much use for modern games.

Farcry uses PS3 with teh latest patch... so i suppose for that extra 3fps (i believe thats the average from all the benchmarks ive seen) at any resolution is really that necessary then go for the 6800 but the x800s are doing very very well and ive read quite a few people have bought x800pros and sucessfully unlocked the other 4 pipelines ;) but thats ok ill be able to get my x800xt for about £150-200 ;)

Hope that helped

Andy

:edit: http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Features/geforce6800/index.html

that should give you a lot of information on the 6800s capabilities but as all technical specifications not a lot of it is really worth knowing

what's so bad that the card requires a 480 watt PW, there not that expensive?

And also whats so bad about a dual slot? like what can be used in the second slot to make it so much of an inconvenience?!

480w psu...a good one...easily 100 bucks, so basically ur paying 600 instead of 500 for a high end card, and dual slot can suck for more than just taking up a slot, it also congests ur case, making ur case alot hotter than it needs to be.

what is AA/AF, i dont get it does it make the graphics look better?! and whats with screen resolution what does it really do? in half-life i played on 800X600, then switched to 1024X768 and the graphics look better, but beyond that it didnt make a difference, whats the main purpose?!

If you don't know what AA/AF is, and can't tell the difference, don't waste $500 on a card, you will never truely use it...4xaa and 8xaf in farcry ****ing owns. :)

i dont even know if i have it enabled in the games i play, can u just tell me what it is?!

its when u see jagged edges on surfaces instead of it looking all smooth and polished. the more aa/af, the less jaggies and the better the game looks. looks sharper,

what about screen resolution, is the whole point of it to just make the game look better graphicswise?!

the higher the resolution, the better the game looks. however it also looks farther away. i prefer nothing higher than 1024x768 cuz then shit just gets tiny and annoyingly small.
