I'm going to make this short and sweet. When I make long, painstakingly detailed posts, they tend to end up in the dustbin of HL2.net history.

I got A Crow Left of the Murder by Incubus as my third purchase by them. I immediately liked Make Yourself and Science at first, but I hated ACLOTM at first. Brandon's voice seemed almost whiny and off-key at times, and many of the songs seemed frankly uninteresting.

But now that I listen to it more, I'm beginning to see it's virtue. Anybody here have this CD?

i've heard a few of their songs and like their style but the songs u mentioned i haven't heard, they're downloading now and i'll let ya know. My favourite song from them that i've heard is pardon me

thats freakin wierd, same exact thing here. I was a huge incubus fan and i was dissapointed by the cd at first but the more i listened the more i liked it.

I heard it was more acoustic based, which I thought was interesting. Megalomaniac managed to grab my attention for a bit. Is that a song a good respresentation of the album?

No, not really at all. That was what led me astray. I would definitely buy the album, but just keep an open mind. And yeah, it's not quite as heavy, though I wouldn't quite say it's acoustic either.

Heh, I like how many other bands like to get heavier and heavier with each release, yet Incubus by the sounds of thing sjust get more and more mellow. :) Sounds like good stuff.

Disturbed got lighter with their second CD... I nearly died... :|

SCIENCE is still my favourite Incubus album. Make Yourself took a little time to grow on me, Morning View did the opposite (immediately liked it then got tired of half the tracks pretty quick), ACLOTM was different. The new bassist definitely adds a whole new flavour to their music. I found it less funky than their older stuff and more... different! It's still Incubus but it's definitely not the same as before, and I'm still not sure if that's a good thing or not! But I do like ACLOTM :)

Name me some bands that have gone heavier. I can't think of a single one.

Wow, neither can I, seems to be a consistent trend =/

Well, not all bad, some bands just don't get any softer :) But they'll cave :p

Metallica, Ash, Amen, Deftones, Fear Factory, Queens Of The Stone Age, Raging Speedhorn, System of A Down, to name a few. :)

Wha? They seem to be pretty consistent to me, with some of their stuff on Toxicity (i.e. Ariels) to be somewhat more mainstream. Steal This Album might not count, since it doesn't really fit into the chronology, but Streamline and Track 15 (all acoustic, forgot its name) are both softer than standard SOAD stuff.

As for the others, I really don't listen to those bands, so that could have something to do with it.

Their first album isn't anywhere near as heavy as their other two, and Toxicity's bass is somewhat flatter than Steal This Album, resulting in the latter being a bit more meaty in sound..

Metallica

Agreed, but they try too hard to be heavy.

White Pony? Okay so there was heavy stuff on that... and the new album is pretty hard, but they did go soft for a bit. And it payed off :)

Also, the new album looks set to be a stonker!

I know exactly what you mean. Their new cd sounds so different compared to their old stuff. It took me a good 2wks to really like ACLOTM and then after awhile i started listening to their old stuff again. What sucks is im going to a concert of theirs in like 2months and they probably won't play any old stuff at all... :(

It's more like they flow their songs together and go with what they come up with. I'm still in love with the guitar solo in "sick sad little world"

Their second album was heavier than the first, White Pony was a bit of a diversion, but almost every song on their self-titled album is heaiver than any other song they've done. :)

Speaking of which, I just got ACLOTM recently, and it came with a free Live EP with 4 songs. They played A Certain Shade of Green and Pardon Me, but it was kind of weird, because Brandon's voice sounded a lot more like it does on Crow - meaning higher and much less heavy and "angry".

Nah, they'll always play tons of old stuff just to stay diverse. Even if they did wanna play lots of new stuff to promote the album they'd have done it closer to the release so you've nothing to worry about. And personally if I went to an Incubus concert I wouldn't much care what they played :D

This is one of my favourite Incubus songs ever. The solo kicks ass, everyone has awesome parts in it :D

Haven't heard any songs from the new album other than Megalomaniac. But it has to be said, that Drive and Are you in? are two of my favorite songs, both by Incubus, both pretty damn funky. I love them! You should check them out!

Are You In? is my favourite track from Morning View, so damn funky, but when I first heard it I hated it, thought it was kind of poppy and stupid. The version of Drive they do on the Morning View Sessions DVD (awesome stuff, get it) is pretty funky. They go acoustic for the first verse/chorus and then everyone else chimes in. It kind of ruins it when Brandon has to whistle the solo though >_<

You know, I felt the same way about the Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan's voice was so strange and whiny at first, but the more you listen to them, the more his voice seems to match with the guitar style.

Also, know that I think of it, TSP are one of the bands that goot heavier as they went on.

I haven't been much of an Incubus fan (in fact many of their songs are forgettable to me). But if I was going to try to get into them, what songs should I look out for?

I wasn't an Incubus fan until this June. Sure, I had heard Drive and all of their hits, and they were pretty good, but nothing too spectacular. Their CDs as a whole are really much better than their singles, as I now know. Check out A Certain Shade of Green (watch the video on www.enjoyincubus.com), Drive, Megalomaniac, etc. to get a good range of their musical style. And check out some of their song samples on enjoyincubus.com. All of their CDs sound completely different, so you may well love Science (nu-metal/funk-ish) but hate Morning View.

I'm at the office now, so I cannot really listen or watch the video until later tonight, but thanks for the recomendations. :D

No problem. And add Privilege to the list to. And Summer Romance. :bounce: (But those two are album songs, so you might not be able to find them.)

All the same. I'm trying really hard not to download music. I had a bad habit of doing that earlier, but now I think that I'm cured. Singles you should be able to download, nothing else, otherwise buy the album.

I have a rule about purchasing CD's. If the artist cannot come up with at least 3 singles, then the album is not a wise investment.

I'll need to check and see whether or not Incubus is a victum of this, but you guys have vouged for them pretty good.
