Yes yes, I see the review thread, I've posted in it. But I really don't know if my trivial little problem would be responded to, if it's any different here. Anyhow...

I've been looking at whatisfear.com for about an hour, and I think it's most likely going to have the best action I've ever seen in an fps. As we all know, the play of it is going to make the play of other games such as Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 look like a James Bond shooter on the N64 (I'll still play Half-Life 2, the action, in my opinion, is great, and nothing can match the plot, story, and characters). Enough of that, my little fear is about the difficulty. I love to play fps's on hard, but F.E.A.R is going to be incredible (or, shall I say, is incredible for the people who already have it :frown: ) and I want to enjoy it as long as possible. Yeah, I know some guy played it for ten hours straight and didn't beat it, but that's not my point. If I start the first time on hard, the whole thing will be a thrill from beginning to end, but once it's done, there's nothing left, it's done, I've beat it on the highest setting and I can't go any farther. Now say I start on easy, I get to play it through easy, enjoy it again even more on normal, then even more on hard.Playing the first time, I won't know what's coming, I won't know any surprises, but if I do it on easy, when all the stuff is encountered it will be simple to get passed.

Random people, give me your thoughts, or you guys that have it, give me some info (but NO spoilers, ya' hear!?) and tell me how the game goes. Honestly, I'm no expert player, so if easy mode is like two and a half times as hard as Half-Life 2 on hard mode, then typing all this will have been pointless :)

Well actually, (if it's the same in the final game as in the demo) there are four difficulties. So you could start on 2 or 3, and then go to 4.

I see. Do you know how hard they it is compared to other fps's? If even the lower ones are damn tough, that could be a plan.

Hard then extreme... you know I think that's a pretty good balance between my two options. I'll do that :)

Is all the fighting nice and challenging? I've heard about what the AI can do.

Some fights are pretty simple, just throw on slowmo and own..but they can be really tough sometimes. I just went through a fight where I had to use 5 medkits.

EDIT: Just played for an hour or so - Lights off, I started at midnight, roomates are asleep (one is out of town) and I have my door cracked. The creepy parts send chills down my spine at all times. I'm at a really creepy/scary part and all of a sudden my door barges open and in comes my roomate that was out of town. He scared the SHIT out of me. I jumped in my chair big-time and he just laughed. I was pissed at him at first but then he told me he brought spicy beef jerky back up with him. All is forgiven.

The game suddenly got harder too. Guys are aiming a lot better and I'm facing tougher and tougher enemies. I actually ran out of medkits and was hovering at 25hp for a while (you regen hp to 25 if you're below so you have a fighting chance even though each bullet hit does at least 10 without armor in this difficulty). I finally managed to get a medkit to bring myself up to 75 :P

Haha, I can just see yourself with fat headphones on, with your face leaning toward the screen, mouth open, when all of a sudden you jump out of your chair and go "AHHHH!".

Heh, pretty much :P

Then I got up and was about to punch him in the arm really hard (I'm not THAT violent :D) but he quickly said in his defense, "BEEF JERKY!" Which was smart because he wouldn't have had enought time to explain the entire situation of him bringing home lots of delicious food before I hit him.

I stopped just as I finished my windup and said, "Where?" :P

The End.

Good night. I've been up WAY too long (it's 2am here and I woke up at 7am after 2.5 hours of sleep). I'm running on fumes at this point.

Well technically I was running on the remnants of the beef jerky I had eaten earlier because I don't smoke :P

Can somebody sum up the story in FEAR please? I beat the game but didn't understand anything. Who's that little girl?

Please do not even bother to highlight this if you haven't beaten the game, this will ruin everything for you and I mean everything.

Here's a quick summary of the entire thing:

You are Alma's son and so is Paxton Fettel, since both of them were born from Alma. The guy you control was considered a failure since you couldn't control an army like Fettel could. However you had powerful abilities, such as your lightning-reflexes, able to see things people couldn't(even defend youself against them), and telepathicly connect with Alma and Fettel. The entire thing was nothing more than a test and apparently you are a success from what the scientist said after the credits.

Alma is Harlan's daughter, and she was born with psychic powers. Harlan decided to do experiments on her and also make clones, but he believed that the clones wouldn't be able to do everything that she could, so they decided to make her pregnant. You were the first to be born, then follow by Paxton. After that, Alma died and was put back into the vault.
