Hello,

Would someone please answer these three questions:

1) Does the PC game support a gamepad?

2) If I download from Steam, what happens if I get a new computer? Must I buy the game all over again?

3) anyone know of any bugs with any of the componants of my system?

Dell Inspiron (laptop) 8600
Win XP Pro
128 Meg ATI Mobile Radeon 9600 pro turbo
2 megs Ram
Pentium M Celeron 1.7 Ghz
Sigmatel C-Major sound card

Thank you very much in advanced for your help!

1. Yes, HL2 does support gamepads but i would seriously suggest using a mouse and keyboard it is a FPS after all :)

2. No, you will not have to purchase the game again through steam if you buy a new PC, just download steam again and use the same account you set up on your laptop, you will however have to download the game files again unless you just transfer them from your laptop.

3. That set up seems pretty fine to me, im not much of a tech head but im sure others will be able to help, but running HL2 on a desktop Pc would be much wiser, better experience and everything :)

It will run on that setup, but don't count on being able to run it on high settings. The processor in that system is slow. So you'll probably get by on low/medium graphics settings. And I assume you mean 2 gigabytes of RAM, and not 2 megabytes? Because if you had 2 megabytes, I'd be worried.

And technically yes, HL2 does support a gamepad, but just setting it up is difficult because you can't do it through the GUI (you'll have to manually edit a config file). PC FPS's are meant for keyboard/mouse

Thank you both for your help!

I was able to assign all the buttons on my gamepad (logitech) and one of the joy sticks,(the left one which for some reason now controls head movement/direction) but I could not get the other joystick to be assigned... I enabled (joystick) in the options/mouse settings (in the game).

Ideally I would like ther right joystick to control head direction and the left joystick to control body movement IE forward, Reverse, L, R...

Any instructions (step by step) how to assign movement to my joysticks?

I play Star Wars Battlefront 2 and have had no problem assigning the joysticks in that game.

All of the buttons on the logitech were easy to assign in HL2. Just the joysticks are a mystery.

Thanks again for your welcome responces!

There is an option called 'joystick look' in the mouse options, did you enable that?

yeah, if you download all the steam stuff, I'd suggest that you back it up and burn them on a dvd.

I emabled the joystick option. Everything works but the right joystick. I am using a logitech dual action gamepad.

Thanks!
