1. the fact that barnacles could only grab humans
2. Xen, peroid
3. only 3 types of scientists
4. only one type of guard

all in all, that's really about it... any comments?

Xen rocked. I never took note of #1 but #3 and #4 were acceptable back then.

I once made the comment that Gordon is a mute in a world full of clones,.

Still. Best game ever.

numbers 3 and 4 are wrong

There are 4 types of scientists and 2 types of guard....wait otis wasn't in hl was he?

Anyways there's Kliener type scientists, Eli type scientists (Black scientists), the ones that look like einstein, and the one that invented the gluon gun

2. Xen, period
This one gets my vote! Dunno bout the other three though... Maybe they all look the same cos they're from a big ol' family? :farmer:

Otis was not in the original HL--he was first introduced in opposing force. Also the gluon gun guy if we are thinking of the same person he was only in blue shift...not the original HL. As for john complaining about the lack of different types of scientists and guards--compare HL to the other fps around at the time. HL was some pretty rox chit back then! Though I have to agree I didnt like xen either  .

Brodie is correct; there was four types of scientists in the original Half-Life; The bald one with glasses, the einstien one, the black one and the one with black hair.

Didn't really like Xen jumping puzzles..I felt like
I was suddenly Mario hunting for a magic mushroom...

Oh ... Xen was all a hallucination!!

Also, I don't know if this is just my system, but ever
since I used the steam version of halfife, I get trapped
in the floor of elevators, and slowy begin to die...

Anyone else have that problem?

What bothered me the most about HL was the damage the marines could take before they went down. It just seemed goofy to come face to face with one, and sit there for several seconds while you emptied half a clip from your MP5 in his face, while he sat there doing the same thing. I don't expect an uncompromising level of realism in games like Half-Life, but you have to adhere to certain limits in order to maintain suspension of disbelief. In my opinion.

There's nothing wrong with Xen, I liked it - it fit into the story. Xen was nice and atmospheric, back then when looking over the edge of a rock that you were standing on you kinda felt small looking at the huge space around you and listening to that howling wind...

Yes! I hadn't played HL1 for ages so I thought I'd load it up from the start yesterday and I got stuck in loads of things! I couldn't understand it, as this never happened in the original...
Dunno bout the slowly dying thing tho - I just noclipped straight away :D

Gordon & the in-bread boys.

Xen was a bit borin', but I did like Nihilianth

Hey guys its another "annoying" noob as you lot say! I've gotta agree that Xen was a bit crap and repetitive, but that still only makes this game 99.9% amazing!

Actually, barnacles picked up more than humans, so number 1 is wrong.

Why was the only weapon that Barney could have was a stinky little Glock. A guard did grab a gauss gun, but he blew himself up. It would of been nice to fight along side some guards packing a shotgun or an mp5. Like the marines, only on your side.

I know what you mean, I reckon the HL2 models for Barney, Eli, Kliener should be used at points during the game, to distinguish between the main characters and generic ones, that would be a nice touch. The random face generator that is used to create generic characters in HL2 might help to create a more convincing environment and not seem like a clone factory

I remember hating Xen, but I played HL through a couple days ago, and it was a lot of fun. It was definately a nice change from Black Mesa :D Imo, once you can manage the jumps, it's great

What random face generator?

the one used by source to make all the different faces
like the random people generator for rct3

I didn't dislike anything about HL. Xen was a nice "relaxing" place after all the fighting on earth.

Xen sucked. Barney was cool but he was only security, yea there wernt alot of models but shit....it was the 90's...let it go, your expected too much.

lol @ "it was the 90's"

i hated any part where you were on that underground rail system. it just pissed me off because i played it a good week before i firgured out where to go and what to do. seriously, the whole "on a rail" thing is keeping me from playing through hl again which i really do want to do.. :( guess ill have to just suck it up and play

Hmm, I don't share the frustration about On A Rail. I agree it could have been a little shorter, to have the best effect, but I feel it was nice overall - and I dind't get lost on that one, which is pretty rare for me. The level seemed very straightforward, quite on the contrary.

It took me about 4 hours of driving round in circles to realise you had to shoot the little sign thingys :(

I soooo identify with that. That part was just boring and hard.

They probably didn't eat aliens though I never saw an alien run near a Barnacle's tongue, I think. But at least they ate marines, which you could use.

lol .... I admit it took me about 5 mins to work it out, but not 4 hours!! Besides, you could have walked most of it ... :)

Same here. I just walk (or run) the route now and it takes me half the time.

the HL2 barnicles from what I hear at hl2world can eat combines and they eating is supposibly much more detailed (they grab someones head then they ragdoll and then it chomps on their head and sucks them into the rest of the barnicle.
