Ok so I've had Oblivion for 5 days now and still haven't been able to play it smoothly, even on lowest settings. Downloading the drivers and such has boosted my performane slightly but is still way below smooth. My shitty specs are:

p4 2.8 Ghz processor
Nvidia GeForce FX5200
512 mb ram

So I hear my main problem is the graphics card I have. So what would be the best graphics card that is around $300 that will help my performance the most. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

AGP or PCIe? And I would also set some money aside for at least 512MB more RAM (and preferably 1.5 gigs).

If you have PCIe I would get this card and more RAM.

Save up 100 more and get one of the best graphics cards for gaming! At least I think they're around 450 bucks anyways.

If he just gets a big ass vid card the processor and the lack of RAM would become bottelnecks.

Nah, it can still be a trusty gaming rig, if he puts the right parts in.

He has an FX card. wtf do you think he has?
AGP, omg.

Get atleased a 6800 card. Or splurge on a 7800GS

There are FX5200's with PCIe. This one for example

I'd recommend a geforce 6800GS, or if you can get hold of one an ati X850XT. The 7800GS isn't really that great performance for the money, especially when the 6800GS is so much cheaper.

6600 runs medium on OB.

So a 6800GS should run medium/high. Just to give you an idea of where you want to go.
