Hey I have a mulit PC router, from which I and my parents connect to the internet, but is it possible to use that router to make lan between the PC's, even if one is a win 98 and the other a win XP

Sure just plug all of your PC's into the router and then as long as it automatically assigns Ip's to all of the PC's you should be able to play lan games, surf the net or fileshare just fine.

Yep... that's kind of what a router does...

Hey it will not work. So does anyone here have experience using a win 98 and win xp pc on the same network and sharing files.

You can't, since XP is using NTFS and Win98 is using Fat32. I believe the XP machine can access the 98 machine, but not the other way around.

Sure ya can but you have to mess with the permission settings since Win98 doesn't get configured the same as WinXP.
Over a network FAT32 vs NTFS or PC vs MAC does not matter.

Although it can be trick setting up the network and knowing what settings to use between win98 and winXP. I would even have to sit down and test it out probably. lol
Sometimes it just doesn't want to work and you have to fiddle with it.

I know what you mean..... I can unplug the lan from my computer, change my settings, plug it back in, change it back..and it wont work...even though it's exactly the same.
So I keep on messing with it until it works, which usually ends up being, changing it back to what it was for the #th time.

Meh. File system doesn't matter at all, as Asus said. You'll want to define them both to be in the same workgroup though..
