Over at Develop, Gabe Newell explains how Valve came to the decision of creating Dota 2. He says that the idea didn't come from him, but from the developers at Valve that do the work on their games. If you're a Valve aficionado, you're already well aware that this has been the development strategy since the company's conception - That there is no corporate hierarchy.

"There wasn't much discussion about deliberately doing something out of our comfort zone with Dota 2," Gabe said. "This was about a group of people in the company that were more excited to build this game than anything else."

You can read the entire interview at Develop.

I also found a few video interviews on the internets. The first is from CVG, and the second is from Destructoid. They're both worth watching!

If you know of any other interviews with Valve/Gabe from Gamescom, shout it out in the comments or send me an email.
