A mod idea I like.

Hi im rather new here. So sorry if this has been posted before...

But what about a mod where you have to rig a house with booby traps to kill or disable however many people coming in. And if they make it to you, you lose. There could also be another variation where you must barricade the doors and windows etc.. with boards, tables, cement blocks, furnaces etc....

I think the havocs physics would work well for this mod. You could have all kinds of traps Like a big brick on a zipcord that gets tripped when you open a door or whatever. Holes in floors that you can disquise with rugs or whatever...

Heh maybe even an online play where you and your team must break into the house with hammers saws anything while another team inside reinforces the walls to keep them safe.

Or your team must identify every booby trap set to clear the mission...

I think it would be a great idea for a mod. An escape from all the shooting mods and cs clones.

But I have no moddeling or mapping modding skills at all.
So its just a suggestion from me to modders. Thanks.
 
I think it would take to long. You would have to spend along time setting it up, and then only to have everyone storm you in about 5 minutes :)
It might be fun for the one setting it up, but the others would have nothing to do. Unless its AI, but they would be too stupid, even if they where incredibly smart.
If its teams, it have to be a darn big house, but then it can get booring too, as its to large (to much running)...

But maybe good modders can pull it off :)
 
That mod sounds more boring than watching 7 hours of grass grow..

Uh, that's great, 'dHaLSiM', way to promote innovation and new ideas. Thank you for having such positive contributions to this forum. I can see that constructive feedback is one of your strong points.

Personally I think Ron-Jon is looking in the right direction. HL2 mods need to take advantage of the physics capabilities to provide more interesting and varied gameplay. Mods should be working to create an environment where dynamic gameplay allows players to come up with innovative solutions to problems, instead of just point-and-shoot.

There's no point in creating new mods without original gameplay mechanics. The only successful mods are those that provide something new.
 
Maybe what would work better is something like the assault gametype from Unreal, one team is trying to get in and take or destroy an objective, and the other tries to defend it. The defending team is limited in what weapons it can get, but they do have shall we say, construction supplies, think things like metal panels that can be riveted over doorways, or boards to nail over things.

Of course in addition to this you have more deadly alternatives, like explosive barrels that can be picked up and moved, heavy objects that can be positioned to be dropped, flammable liquids to play with.

I guess the key point is to allow enough time for an outer defense to be set up. Anyway I like the idea of being able to set traps but making that the whole focus of the game would be difficult.

i think its a well kool idea ;). its summet different than online games now :p and will give us summet to do when we get bored. im sure there was a game like this on the sega-cd or summet. u hadda use traps to stop burglars getting in your home :afro: was well kool n fun :p. nice idea Ron-Jon. :cheers:
 
i just typed up a respsone in the "zombie mod" thread
this fits in along those lines
its like Dawn of the Dead where zombies try to get in and you gotta trap yourself in
slow paced but scary as hell, hopefully

I Like this idea..... someone talked about this before I think but no matter :)... something I have to add: Another idea along those lines is a multiplayer game where one team is building a certain type of building (using Manipulators) with wood, stone whatever, and another team has to sabotage it.... that needs a bit of development... anyway :thumbs: good job with the idea :)... its different :)
 
how bout terorist hostage situation u have a timer to apoint guards at places and ur placing and stuff really counts then after the time runs out the swat storm the building and try to get the hostages ?. not to good mp wise buth ey ?
