A new "planewhore" type video!

fukin hell he is good, his chopper kill at around 3mins 50 was pretty sweet...

Planewhore got me into jets you know. In fact me made me actually get buy a $20 something joystick just to fly jets. He used to post a little on the PBF forums but the people just called him a lame jerk. But he did give some really great advice:
  1. You should watch all his vids and try and imitate what he does.
  2. Don't fly around in missile mode but rather in gun mode. This prevents any of the beeping noise to the other jet.
  3. Try and gun the guy down rather than mess with AA. Bullets take the enemy down fast and it will kill him before he knew what happened. It also prevents the beeping alert noise to him.
  4. Use the thrusters when making turns and during take-off.
  5. Dive bombing is the way to bomb. It directs the bombs literally instead off the hit-and-miss carpet bombing, and also practice your bombing.
  6. J-10 owns and its as simple as that.
  7. Do loop-de-loops constantly to lose the attacker. You will really loose him if you are in a J-10 because of its turning advantage.
  8. Get familiar with the joystick and buy a good joystick.
I followed those tips and have seen me improving over the months. And btw you will not become godly in a day. You will get crashed over and over until you feel like there is no stoping Darth Vader on your ass, no matter how much you try. ;)

I'd rather play games myself, than watch other people play them.

That being said, this video was actually pretty cool. I liked how they started it off, where it didn't even look like a game, and looked like a well edited movie.

Then the cuts got annoying, and it turned into another "great, some guy flying around in a video game and blowing stuff up..."

I just for some reason follow a guy, and lose him, and 20 seconds later, he is on my ass, and I can't lose him. I gotta learn how to evade it.

Holy hell is that guy good, what's amazing is his ability to fly the jet in the 'cinematic' view, I always get disorientated and wind up hoping for the best. I use the same camera switches in a heli but I just can't do it in a jet, not having joystick doesn't help either ;(

    - His skills in a jet are based on experience, and the only way you can learn is through your own practice, but watching his videos couldn't hurt. :p
  2. Don't fly around in missile mode but rather in gun mode. This prevents any of the beeping noise to the other jet.
    - True
  3. Try and gun the guy down rather than mess with AA. Bullets take the enemy down fast and it will kill him before he knew what happened. It also prevents the beeping alert noise to him.
    - True to a certain extent, guns own if the enemy doesn't realize you're on his tail, but when it goes to the wild-goose-chase moments them having missiles are necessary.
  4. Use the thrusters when making turns and during take-off.
    - Using thrusters for turning isn't always ideal, it makes you take a wider angle and if he's on your six, gives him an easier time to lock onto you. I never use thrusters on takeoff, completely unnecessary and you wind up wasting afterburn-fuel.
  5. Dive bombing is the way to bomb. It directs the bombs literally instead off the hit-and-miss carpet bombing, and also practice your bombing.
    - True
  6. J-10 owns and its as simple as that.
    - True
  7. Do loop-de-loops constantly to lose the attacker. You will really loose him if you are in a J-10 because of its turning advantage.
    - If you're in a J-10 you can just pretty much do whatever you want and you'll lose him (especially if he's in a JSF). If you're on a JSF though, if given the chance get up to ~900 and slam on the afterburners, you'll break the speed of sound and the J-10 cannot catch up to you ... but this takes a LOT of skill and practice. The ideal way to launch yourself up to that altitude is to do an 'S' shape flight path and you should be near the stall range, just becareful and don't tilt up otherwise the momentum will drive you up past it and you will stall.
  8. Get familiar with the joystick and buy a good joystick.
    - I wish I could get one ;(

I know some people who are gods at jets and they only use the keyboard...joysticks aren't necessary, just easier.

There's a limit on how good you can be without a joystick, I'd imagine it'd be an even lower ceiling with keyboard. The main advantage with a joystick is the ability to control your acceleration speeds, with a keyboard-only / mouse you're confined to either -100% / 0 / 100%, which against a joystick user they will out manuevre you.

Note to self, make specific camera angle button binds. Right now when I play I only use the cycle and it's not too efficient.

I also gotta practice more with guns.

Who wants to dogfight 1v1 right now? :P

Wow, I must be really good then also. That wasnt that amazing, most of his targets werent really trying to evade. I have been in dog fights where i have had to stay on the guy's tail for over 7 minutes with him weaving in and out of my view. With these guys, it seems like he just sneaks up on them and shoots missiles at them. They dont change direction at all. Bank hard, zero your throttle, and dive. That will get you out of most situation where a pilot is on your tail. Of course you need to be at the right altitude to be able to get back up to speed and climb before smashing into the ground.

That isn't true. You can let go of the forward key, and tap it to keep at whatever speed you want. Trust me, they weren't no amatures..they usually got their targets, and this was when missles actually missed their targets when turning.

In the pubby section, the enemy pilots just got snuck up on (he was on bomb mode so no lock-mode buzz) and machine gun kills things (especially other planes) very quick.

Did you see any of the 1v1 parts though? Specifically the one versus Selaron, that was some amazing shit. The jet's were evading, it's just that Califrag outmanuevres them and ends it within the minute. Reason he kept switching to 'cinematic' view was to be able to keep tabs on him, otherwise he would've lost sight and direction long ago.

You can but it's not quite precise, I used to do Heli / Jet's with keyboard only and from my own personal experience, it blew chunks. I sucked hard with both until I saw the light and switched to mouse. But hey, maybe your friends are ridiculously awesome and just pwn. :p Myself, I just felt restricted since the keyboard sensitivity / movements feel's so ... "clunky". Kind of like using a D-Pad vs Analog on consoles, it just doesn't give me the freedom / precision of the analog.

edit: This discussion is too much theorycraft, we need to put the best Joystick vs best Keyboard players to the test...

I nominate Califragilistic to be the joystick pilot! :p

blah blah blah tldr

Yeah, I know what you mean, when I tried doing keyboard only, I failed miserably. I can't do choppers without the mouse. I can do jets, but I do better with teh joystick, just because I've always played flying games with them, the first being X-WIng..the goold ol' game.

What are the thrusters and what are the afterburners and how do I use them.

You also make fancy trails when you use them which are visible to other players

I think it's whenever you turn.. I don't think you have to use Afterburners for trails on turns.

I always thought it was from afterburners...

I took a quick peak at Califragilistic's stats, holy hell it was ~4400 : 220 kill : death ratio.

D:

edit: In a jet of course

I thought you meant as sniper!?
