Here is a quick look at CPU scaling in HL2. He used an Athlon 64 FX 55 (ATI X800XT) and clocked it from 1GHz to 2.7GHz and used resolutions from 640x480 to 1280x1024.

That shows that HL2 is very CPU dependant. Example: At 1.8GHz, on a very powerful and efficently designed CPU like the Athlon 64, you don't get any improvement in FPS dropping your resolution from 1280x1024 to 640x480.
Although don't forget this is with an ATI X800XT.

The picture is not there could u pilfer it from your downlaoded images and post it ?

Should work now

I'm not exactly sure but it probably uses java or flash. I perfer not to have either installed for firefox so I just opened it with IE.
Edit: Doubled checked and it is a jpg. Works with IE fine. Posted link above. Tell me if you still can't see it.

It'd be interesting to see what the scores would be with a less powerful video card.

Yeah, it would be nice if firingsquad would do one of their "Half Life 2 performace with" articles like this with a number of other graphic cards.

Here is another CPU review (AMD and Intel CPUs) for HL2 done with the X800XT.

Looks like my shiny new gfx card won't quite be enough to make my xp-m earn it's keep :(

(then again, 50 fps at the most heavy scenes isn't bad at all :))

say what ever you want to say

AMD OWNED INTEL, is an understatement, AMD ****S INTEL UP THE ASS!!!!

20-30 fps you kidding me!

i had a whole INTEL System planed out, **** that shit, going with the same identicle AMD chip vs the intel, i gain 20extra fps for a cheaper price

based on these result, if you dont buy AMD for gaming your a faggit dumbass. simple as that, thanks asus nice post this is what i was waiting for, can you get one for x800xtpe vs 6800ultra, ?

"The bottom line is long pipelines suck at unpredicable branches. Games are full of these. This is why the Athlon kills the P4."
Yep yep

You mean in HL2? Sure, just go to Xbitlabs or Anandtech.

hey asus, thanks man for the site, you definitly doing your part as an admin, you da shiznit

anyway,

tell me what you think about this

i looked at the CPU roundup, obviously i will be going with AMD 64, the problem is i look at the 3400 clawhammer was doing as good if not 1 fps better than the

Athlon 64 3500+ (Socket 939, 2.2 GHz, 12KB L2);
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Socket 939, 2.2 GHz, 512KB L2, Winchester core)
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (Socket 754, 2.2 GHz, 1024KB L2);

teh 3400 is the AGP version right, the other two are 939 for PCI mandatory right?

so i f i want ONLY AGP i go with 3400 right? or can the 939s be used as AGP also? the 3400 is 50 bucks cheaper plus its 1mb cache so thats good right?

ok so i decided that im doing 3400, but i dont have RAM or a mobo? can you guys tel lme what to get

i understand that the asus p4c800e deluxe is the best intel mobo out there, whats the best AMD version of that mobo?

if you guys see anythign wrong with my reasoning tell me what to do thats a lot.

their test system was

EPoX 8KDA3+ (Socket 754, NVIDIA nForce3 250);
1024MB DDR400 SDRAM (Corsair CMX512-3200XLPRO, 2 x 512MB, 2-2-2-10); why is it 22210 and not 2225? they listed 2 rams how do you know which ram went wit hwhat system?

i dont wanna just copy their system i need input.
