a sad milestone

Horrible. Unecisary (the cost of human lives). And painful for me to see. Even more sad is the total (iraqi / coalition) deaths which is the highest in such a conflict since Nam.

And about 11,000 civilian deaths.

Though apparently UN sanctions on Iraq caused many more deaths per year than the war has so far....

oh **** the world for all it's worth....

I have never agreed with anything more strongly. :flame:

Seconded for being the most true thing on this stinking face of the earth.

It's nothing compared to World War II, though... and I think there was a genocide in Africa not too long ago where millions died (but as it happens, no one gives a shit about Africa).

That would be Rwanda. Horrible stuff. And I'm assuming that last comment was a sarcastic snipe at the attitude many Western countries seem to adopt. Especially when it's partly our fault...
And whilst we're on the depressing subject of grotesque loss of human life, let's spare a thought for ole Slobabdon Milosevic (sp?) on trial in The Hague right now. Slippery bastard trying to get out of facing justice by claiming he's too ill. Sure he may be ill but I don't care, he has to face the consequences of his actions - happily the judges agree.

That trial is turning into a farce. Poor, poor Milosevic has a high blood pressure, so they can't charge him with genocide, ethnic cleansings and whatnot. They should just get on with it.

They should string him up by his nuts.

He's just trying to, if you'll forgive me whilst I coin a phrase, Pull a Pinochet. That bastard managed to get off trial, but in fairness he actually was too ill to stand trial properly - decrepit physically and mentally. It's such a shame because the man was a monster. Is he dead yet?
Milosevic may have high blood pressure but he still has the faculties to understand the proceedings and, as far as I'm concerned, the man can have a heart attack in the courtroom. He should be made accountable. His victims deserve it.

while we are on the subject of genocide, anyone care to tell me why my government refuses to recognise the genocide of the armenian people? Why? Why won't we even recognize that it happened?... sorry off topic.
Anyway, about the post, this truly is sad, when you read the article please, stop and just look at the faces pictured, those people are no more, and for what? And don't tell me, the freedom of Iraq, if the iraqi people wanted freedom so bad, they would fight the war themselves. :frown:

because the US is on friendly terms with Turkey ....they usually wont come after countries that they are allies with ...unless, that is, the US decides they're no longer useful

edit: btw it's truely sad so many coalition forces were killed in a war few understood. But the number of civilian casualties far exceeds this number. Still it's less civilian deaths caused by the first war ...estimates were in the 30,000 - 50,000 range during actual fighting. Sanction related deaths were in the hundreds of thousands

Completely True.

Admiral Kelly, Captain Card, officers and sailors of the USS Abraham Lincoln, my fellow Americans: Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. -Thursday, May 1, 2003.
