does life get any better?

i was just wondering just how tough things get the older you are... because im doing my year 10 exams, and i kinda got a bit swept away by the amount of work i have to do... so in other words i have been doing at least 3 hours of art work a day after school for 2 weeks, and my exam is tommorow and friday (10 hours of painting :x )

but loads of the teachers say that in year 11 we get loads more work than in year 10, which is plausable... but also mt parents say that you get loads more work in 6th form colledge... which i guess is OK... and then you get EVEN more in uni...

now i know this sounds a bit obvious... i mean of course thisgs get harder later in life.... but i mean do you actually get any more spare time untill retirement??

basicly, i want to know if i will ever have as much spare time as i have now, or i will have to wait untill retirement to have long, relaxing days again...

*sigh*, life is depressing :|

Well, you do get one hell of alot more work. The biggest change is from year 11 to sixth form though. So you have a year of fun left :P

Nar, I wouldnt worry mate. You sound pretty hard working and I am sure you will do just fine. One other thing to remember is that when in sixth form you get free periods and alot more freedom. Which means while the work is harder, you often have more time to do it in school...

Just dont make the same mistake I did this year and do no work :(

I'm paying for it now lol.

heh it gets harder not easier :) sorry but it's the truth...think about it..right now you dont have to worry about a mortgage, car insurance, home insurance, taxes (property, personal), kids college fund, parents aging, utility bills, etc...hmmm sometimes I wish I was back in school; life was easier back then

but there are a lot of good things too :)

OH MY GOD.... CPT.STERN U R THE DEVIL!!! LOOK AT THE POSTS!!! THEY ARE EVIL!!! STAY BACK!!! 666!!!!

btw, just wondering, how old are all of u? im 14 :P

it gets worse before it'll get any better. assuming you're gonna go on to do a-levels (a shitload of work for no reason to be honest), then you'll hopefully get to the uni you want to go to (a lot more fun for a lot less work but it's all done off your own back). then after that i guess it's pretty much what stern said. you can choose to a certain extent how involved you get in 'a normal everyday life', ie. mortgage, wife, bills etc. most people i know don't go down that route simply because it's so stressful and so difficult to cope.

but take it easy, you've got at least another 6-7 years of playing games, masturbating and hugging girls before the real games begin.

suicide42, school and college work gets harder, but you will be able to handle it better because of your intelligence and experience. as you grow up you won't realise the work getting harder, and if u go to college, im sure you will enjoy it ;)

i hope i make sense...

enjoy life! worrying is a waste of time and i rarely worry about anything these days, theres just no point!

Just wait till you get your first utility bill:"WTF $@%! $400 FOR ELECTRICITY!!!!"

hehe more than double that age...and then some

I'm 18 (-2 weeks), and A-levels are a lot harder than GCSEs. But the plus side to all of this is that you're going to pick subjects that you enjoy and are interested in. And if you don't want to study them anymore, you don't have to (you'd be stupid to quit education entirely though), unlike GCSEs which are a government requirement. :) I do have to say, however, that A-levels have been probably been the most stressful two years of my life. Thank god they're ending in two weeks...

I'm 16, nearly 17, and I can say, Year 10 - 11 was the least work I ever did in my life. AS levels are insanely hard after that.

Life is hard, I'm afraid.

oh ya...worst of all ..after you're done with school..forgot about having summers off, you're lucky if you get 2 weeks paid vacation a year

first ting, im definately going to college AND university (or i want to anyway), because i get good grades and i want to make use of my intelligence (etc.)

but my parent went to un i and colledge, and they both have respectable jobs... but get paid average amounts. on the other hand, BOTH my uncles only went to colledge (no uni), both are less intelligent than my parents, but somehow manage to get great jobs and earn BUCKETLOADS and have now retired early...

basicly, lifes a bitch :P

*edit* in reply to cpt.stern...
HAHAHHA!!! SUMMER HOLIDAYS IN 3 WEEKS!!! YEEE!!! WELL NEEDED BREAK!!! WH000000
i have to wade through the dreaded year 11 for my next one though... and then....

ahh man sorry to hear that...

yeah im working at the moment during spare days between exams and stuff.

my advice for anybody looking for a career...look through the local paper find a high paying job that's in demand and study that...I have friends who habve degrees in all sorts of useless subjects and had a hard time looking for work. Unless you are going to a professional (doctor lawyer) dont count on getting a job based on what you did in school...most of the people I know have careers that had nothing to do with what they took in school

oh and a good carpenter can make as much as a doctor...My brother in law drives a dump truck and makes $60 K a year (canadian)

omg... i ****ING HOPE that HL2 will come out in the summer holidays rather than in the middle of year 11 when im doing work... same applies to WOW (MMORPG)

if they dont come out im gonna personally beat up the developers, then have a period in year 11 where my grades suddenly plummet for a month then slowly get back up...

then they release opposing forse 2 and grades = N

hehe no ...I hate suicide cuz he's on vacation in 3 weeks :)

im 17 but i went to a school with a bit of a shitty reputation so my homework amount wasn't absolutley massive....most i ever got took me a long time to finish in the last year...it was a 9 page assignment and took me about 6 straight hours to complete

college is better but i'm not doing AS or A levels...i'm doing whats called a BTEC ND which means i have no exams...but a shit load of paper work....it can be difficult at times but the relaxed atmosphere is much better than school

seriously, you dont know how much im looking forward to it... PLUS its by birthday on august the 3rd, which means i wont have to use my fake Bus ID to get into the cinema to see 15s andymore

i still might not be able to because im short for my age, but at least now i can know that im not commiting fraud...

What? But work is fun :P In sixth form its not that bad as long as you choose the right subjects, its revision that really drags you down but you get rewarded with nice healthy grades  and anyway life is what you make it you just have to choose the most benificial path.

ok, i need to ask a work related question, please answer it as i need to finish this work tonight, as it is the preperation work for my art exam which is tommorow. And i was supposed to do this over 2 weeks

but im not feeling too bad, because out of 60 or so people who are doing the test, i only know 2 that have dont anywhere near the amount i have, so i know im not gonna be low in the class :) but then again i have only spoken to about 20... and most of them havent dont anything :|

but anyway, im doing a scene where there is a ruined skyscraper skyline that has ben decimated my nuclear war, and infront you can see desert and objects buried in the sand. WHAT COLOUR SHOULD THE SKY BE??? i dont want it to be blue , as that doesnt really fit in with all the depression / man killing themselves / ruined remains kindof thing. plus its art so i can draw whatever and say its "artistic".

heres a rough attachment.

btw its in acrilic paint but i could do the sky in water coulour...

and ill probally post all my exam prep. work on the art forums when its marked, just to let u know ;)

*edit* im thinking red

should be grey/dark seeing as there was a nuclear war...after a nuclear war, tons of dust etc gets thrown up into the atmosphere and causes nuclear winter by blocking out the sun. *that's if you want to be scientifically correct. you can maybe have the odd ray of sunshine peeking through the dense clouds...but generally it should look like a miserable tuesday afternoon in england.

Id make it dark orange so that it balances the color of the desert. It might not look realistic but it would work better than a regular looking sky.

ye im thinking either dusty red or dusty grey. the thing is its only preperation work, so im not going to be doing masterpeices like mechagodzilla ;)

i hate working with real paint as there is no undo button!!!!

plus all my brushes are crap and i cant do detail, and i cant get the colour of the sand right...

i just hope it all works out tommorow :)

acrylic is easy to work with..but it dries fast...Oil paint is more flexible

As student life goes on, you'll still do your work at the last minute. You may try very hard to do it in advance, but its impossible (yes, theres a physics law somewhere that proves this). The only difference is that where you are the last minute is the night before, latter the last minute will be two weeks in advance. :x

i have done some work with oil paints actually, it was on the page before and i drew an alien (from the alien films, and H.R. Giger) killing marines on a spacestation. the alien is.. er.. spearing the marines head with his inner mouth thingie, i dont know the exact verb ;) but anyway im quuite prud of it :) i also used watercoulour for the cbackground any spraypaint for space

To address the first question...I would say life is what you make of it. If you have the motivation in you, and i mean real motivation and you don't care what others are saying around you then life can be fantastic.

I am 18, and yes some of you say I'm young and nieve but you are old and cynical :P I've seen what my parents have done, and I've seen how they have reacted to situations in life and they are far better off than they were. Although they don't yet have the money to be able to stop working and live a wealthy retirement, they will do soon enough. Anyway, they are happy and they do get stressed but they still have a fundamental feeling inside that if they keep trying then it doesn't matter how hard life gets, they will make it in the end...and at least they won't regret not trying.

Heheh, thanks for the pity those who gave it :)

Oh and I am sorry your in the same boat as me Pent ;(

Good news today though! I found out the maths sylabus has changed once more meaning that I have to do one whole module less than before! Thank god....

Life sucks.

You can make it a little better if you're wealthy, but usually it's just crap after crap.

p.s. im lasy so i just did the sky iof my picture in a very pale grey watercolour wash... VERY easy and VERY quick ;)

Responding to the first question, life is what you make of it. If you want great things from life you'll have to work very hard for them. If you just wish to enjoy life and are more of a free spirit, so to speak, you can get away with a lot less effort. Just depends on what you wish to accomplish.

I'm getting close to finishing my engineering degree and I can definitely say that all through school the work just get's more intense and harder. However, you also learn how to cope with it better. For example 4 years ago, when I was in highschool, if I had to do the work that I do now I probably would have panicked and locked myself in my room for a week. But now it's not so bad. You just get use to it.
