hey guys, a few weeks ago i bought these doctor martens.

originally, i wanted them black, but since there were none left i bought a brown pair, and decided to coat them black with those things you use to coat black shoes.

so after struggling i managed to make them black, but they shine a little bit, like those other types of shoes that are supposed to shine, and i was wondering if you could make them shine less with some substance, and leave them sort of opaque-looking like in the pic from the link (how they originally were).

ps - i hope i didn't fug up.

edit: from the site's description it says they're leather

Get some standard boot polish (black) .......don't get parade gloss or anything stupid.
Then melt some candle or beeswax into it you want about 1/3 wax mixed in.

Apply with a brush and don't polish.

I've come up with this method on the spot, but it should work, everything else i have come up with does.

i think i've already done the boot polish part, or should i go buy some anyway? and would vaseline do the job instead of candle or beeswax? thanks for the suggestion, i appreciate it.

Well you have to think logically about what you are trying to acheive.
A shiny surface is caused by having a smooth surface, a matte one if from having a microscopic level of variation causing diffuse.

The wax being hard would act as a hardener to the dark polish and with application being rough would leave a rough surface, like cardboard.

Vaseline would be far too thin for this task, its thinner than the polish itself.
The only other alternative to application of a matte layer is to adjust the properties of the leather, with sandpaper or something.....but doing this will reduce the life of the boot and is not recomended at all.

Why the hell do you know all that about shoes...
I'm lucky if i can figure out how to put them on :/
Let alone mod them

And why the hell are you modding shoes?
Thats like overclocking your pants...

You probably could've found another site with the exact same shoes but in black, and also saved yourself all this hassle :P.

I guess you can't return them after all that polish has been on them...

Kind of like macguyver, everything he makes on the fly never fails! :P

you could just try keeping your feet in the shadows such that the brown colour is desaturated and comes off as a murky black colour. Of course because it's so hard to find shadows 24/7, you could carry around a large golf umbrella which would provide you with portable shadows for your shoes. It would also give you more character.

Short Recoil, is there a way to get really shiny shoes with normal polish?

Can I ask this thread to be closed for obvious reasons? Thanks.

At least she...*i hope its a she* didn't make a new worthless thread asking! +1 for you Arc.

Just get some slip-ons man... best way to go. Put em on, dirtier they get the better!

Bleh, my sigs had a 2 line quote for ages and they even said it was ok, even though on the fringe.

I'll make it unquoted though anyway.

I wanna discuss a new sig idea I had in mind with Ennui or Chris, since it sorta goes against forum rules, yet at the same time helps clean up my sig
