A small glimpse of DirectX 10

seems more of a glipse of whats in vista then directx 10

Sorry, but i was going to just start a new thread on DX10.
but iam more interested in what DX10 will bring to the quality of graphics, any new features or eye candy as so to speak?

also what are we talking about as far as price goes for a new DX10 GPU? I hope we an't talking some crazy fee for one? i only ask because iam looking at a new NV7800GT!

I would expect DX10 will include support for PhysX and any other physics processing card out there, either that or DX11

I should think DX10 will have support for physics cards.
DX11 wont be out for some time yet.

I wouldn't, at DX10 anyway. Way to early.

Ageia have already said they have an intrest in licensing there physics card to Havok and other physic engines.
These are basically the API's. Novodex, Havok, etc.. There basically similar to what DirectX and Open Gl are for, except there are far more of them and their for physics.
For DX10 it's just to early really. Dx11 is quite a few years off and I could see it being in their. Of course I don't know how well it would compete. "DirectPhysics". Of course within time it would get better and better.

Anyway I hope Dx10 brings some nice stuff to the table for Developers.

I'm personally waiting for the new DX10 cards, hopefully coming out late next year or early 2007 and just hoping my X800 XT can keep up ok til then

I don;t know exactly what it adds in terms of graphics, but I would assume we will be seeing better shader models and probably imporvements to parallax\virtual displacement mapping along with lesser improvements to bump mapping and normal mapping - of course, I'm no expert and don;t honestly know much about the tech, so this is all speculation and hopes

There was a big article on it, I'll see if I can find it. Though developers would understand it better...

I want screenshots of eye-candy from realtime rendered! :(

hmph, they're scrapping the fixed function pipeline with Direct3D and going with a completely custom function pipleline, i.e. pixel/vertex shaders. I better start learning shader language :o

I agree with you there. Does the XBOX360 not use a simular process with its shaders and pipelines.
hmmm, that is interesting. i guess i could hold off the purchase of a new GPU, for a DX10 compatabile one when they arrive. still got to purchase the other parts first.

Xbox360 uses Dx9, but it's graphics card has shaders that act both as vertex and pixel. Just as it uses Pixel Shader 3.0 and not 4.0. 4.0 will be a Dx10 standard.

So to a certain degree the XBOX360 is a hybrid!?
Using some properties from DX9 and DX10!

But i think i mught just get a NV7800GT, will be alot cheaper than a new DX10 compatible graphics card.

No actually. Having both Vertex and Pixel is a GRAPHICS CARD thing, nothing to do with DX10.
