Hey mods I've came up with this idea it's not very bright hahhah didn't think it through. But maybe it can help us get rid of some of all the flaming and negativity on the forums. You could put a "poster of the moth" or "most contributive forum member" stuff like that, which motivates people to become more friendly and useful, maybe you boost the ranks not only regarding the nº of posts but also if the make good interesting or hepful posts for others. And viceversa you prevent some from getting their ranks upgraded even if they got the number of posts required. I know not everyone will be interested in this concept but maybe it can help that some of us do in fact become more polite and useful to this community.

Unfortunately there's just too many members to single out one person per week for being most contributive. And I fear that a "poster of the month" may generate spam.

Unless someone starts with the torch ("member of the week" title onder thier name) and then passes it on every week to someone he feels worthy.

Your idea is there, we just need to work out the kinks.

I know poster of the month could generate spam the catch is that poster of the month depends on quality of posts not only quantity. And yes the idea has it's shortcomings but maybe reformulating it a bit , something useful can come out.

You've already caused one person to spam..

a Poster of the Month would not change anything, because the flamers and the spammers obviously don't care and they would continue to do the same old crap..

Instead what we're doing to battle that problem is instant bans.

It's not final yet but it's likely that we'll introduce a zero tolerance policy on people that constantly flame, are unhelpful and negative to other forum members.

'bout time!

Your suggestion would be way too much work; to monitor everyone and make a decision on who's been the 'best member' every week would take up huge amounts of time and effort.

Unless we hacked in some sort of automated system, but still, banning the arse holes will be more effective :)

You know which one I'd rather do ;)

Yes I see it as too much work too, I think the instant banning solution to be useful too. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, and with the decay witnessed recently in the forums I think you'll get the support from every reasonable member. Let hope we can get this place to be as good as it used to be.

And on a completely unrelated note, I love your new avatar Six Three :)

Why thank you, I wanted something a little less gloomy :p Maybe it will lessen the tension we've all being seeing these days :)

Woah.

Instant bans? That's even sharper than PHL. Good work, mods!

:D

I've been banned from:

Halflifesource.com - most likely for posting bandwith charts of hl2.net and hls.com to counter a claim from one of their users that hls.com was the more popular site.. (no explanation was given, just *poof* byebye 63 :p

Halfliferadio.com - most likely for asking why one of their DJ's read news from theonion.com as fact.. (once again, no explanation)

PHL.com for disagreeing with Beagle about the right to an education (I was for)

************* - for disagreeing with a number of users about the "beta"

and this list keep growing!

I didn't know that hl2.net censored links..
