Edit: Or maybe-

Mrs Doyle: Now come on Father, what would you say to a nice cup of tea?

LOL

I remember when it first started, I thought I'd hate it, I was in tears laughing by the end of it. I'd have to say Dougal Maguire is my favorite, way too many quotes from him, lol sorry now im laughing just thinking of that stupified expression of his haha

He was a god of comedy IMO. I think Python is very funny but Milligan just wins hands down for sheer strangeness and originality, oh and the theme for Q I think it was, that was brilliantly done :)

Has anyone seen that Father Ted episode where Jack(Drink) gets put in an old peoples home?

This is a local shop for local people...

oh man!!

The one with the light switching on and off and:

"I really shouldn't be here you know!"

LMAO, Thats a clasic!!!!!

Did anyone ever watch Black Books? Not widely known, but it was absolutely hilarious. Bill Bailey is so damn funny.

I watched a couple of episodes of black books.

Did anyone watch peep show?

Hell yes!!! (Black Books, not peepshow.....)

Man how good are our comedy programs eh!!!! WOOT UK!!

lol :p

Most of the time peep show wasn't funny, but when it was (eg. the whole episode where he tries to get revenge on Sophie), it was pant-wettingly good ;)

Ted <Holding a toy farmyard cow>

-"Ok Dougal, one more time. This is small, the ones out there are far away. Small. Far away.

ehhhhrm, why the hell hasnt Only Fools & Horses been mentioned?

Del was the daddy of 80s comedy imo!

I'm so glad someone mentioned it Craig!

One Foot In the Grave was a good one too.

What do people think of Absolutely Fabulous. I know that a lot of people used to watch it in the 90's (I didn't because I just never really watched it) but I've seen the most recent series and it is dire. I sit there waiting for it to be finished and I'm lucky if I even smile while I watch it, let alone laugh.

One Foot was cool, but I never really 'got' ab-fab "sweety darling" n' all that nonsense. some of it was funny, but not much.

I'd say 80s / 90s top 4

1. Only Fools.
2. One Foot.
3. Bottom
4. Red Dwarf

You've gotta consider the later 90's too though with the Fast Show. I loved that show.

Thats true. Harry Enfield too.

While Red Dwarf is my fave (untill it reached series 6 :/) you gotta love Spaced, it's sooooooooo good :)

what does SMEG mean? :) Ive watched to many RED DWARF episodes!

You get an explanation of what smeg means on the red dwarf DVD's. Its short for smegma which has a dictionary meaning of....

smeg·ma ( P ) Pronunciation Key (smgm)
n.

A sebaceous secretion, especially the cheesy secretion that collects under the prepuce or around the clitoris

(b) The cheesy, sebaceous matter which collects between the glans penis and the foreskin.

n : a white secretion of the sebaceous glands of the foreskin

Dougal: Can I stay up tonight to watch the scary film?
Ted: Ah, no no no. The last time you stayed up to watch a scary film you ended up having to sleep in my bed. I wouldn't mind, but it wasn't even a scary film.
Dougal: Come on, Ted. A Volkswagen with a mind of its own. If that isn't scary, I don't know what is.

I've also frequently heard it used in reference to the kind of oily gunk you find stuck to the bottom of effluent pipes...

What about "My Hero"? I like it.

Red dwarf is still the best though.

And what about "The Vicar of Dibley"?

"Nonono... Yes."

EDIT: And "Dad's Army".

"Y' say one wurrrrd about mah kelt, Ah'll bash yer face in."

Bottom! Hopefully getting the Series 1 DVD for Christmas, I absolutely love Bottom.

I always liked Men Behaving Badly, too... surprised that didn't get a mention yet.

Was smeg mentioned earlier in this thread?
I read it while in uni today but can't seem to find it...

Anyway smeg is indeed a word. It is short for smegma...

Which is not something u cough up (I hope), or sneeze out (god forbbid)

It is.... wait for it

COCK CHEESE... WOOOHOOOO

smegma n : a white secretion of the sebaceous glands of the foreskin

So now u know...

1. Red Dwarf (1-5)
2. Black Adder
3. Only Fools and Horses (before the women were introduced :/)
4. Spaced
5. Alan Partridge
6. The Office
7. Fawlty Towers
8. Bottom
9. Game On (old Mat)
10. Young Ones

imo :)

pHATE1982, smeg, along with it's proper definition (More or less the same as what you said, only more... scientific) was mentioned about three or four posts ago ;).

And I don't think that anyone who now knows really would have wanted to in retrospect :E.
