Unfortunately I'll be receiving Half-Life 2 for Christmas. (Don't tell me to get it now, I really don't have time to play until then anyways).
Sadly, I have a shared dial-up connection at home, and have heard that the recent updates are 100+ megs in size (which would take a long time).
Will Steam insist on automatically install these updates during validation? I'm not planning on doing any modding, and thus don't really need the SDK. Ditto multiplayer (at least until I get back to college and the LAN connection). Not having to download these parts would save me a lot of time and hassle.
Basically, will I have the option of postponing installation of these components?
