Hi, I have a amd Athlon XP 2600+ with a Abit KD7 (norm KD7, no special version. And i can overclock using just the FSB.... i have gotted it up to 2.2GHZ no problem... but it seems that the Multiplyer is locked or something, no matter what i change it to it dosent affect the cpu speed, it would be great if someone could help me with this. it makes it hard to go any further without being able to use the multiplier.....I have flashed the bios to the newest one that abit offers..anyhelp would be much apprieatated....thanks.

if you wanna unlock it you got to check serie number first
if it starts with axda then its unlockable.

Im not at the computer right now, im at my moms and my computer is at another house...i will check it tommarrow..but if you dont mind, how come its unlockable? thats kind of wierd..please explain

The first Athlon XP's had locked multiplyers. Then with the Barton core they left them unlocked so you could change them in bios without any hardware modification. Then they cracked down on that again. Only the mobile chips are unlocked now.

Otherwise you have to look up which L bridges to connect on the CPU chip to unlock the multiplyer.

If you have thermal compound then you can take off the heatsink, clean it off and look up the serial number. Then just reapply compound of course. :)
