I have a 6600GT, 3.0ghz CPU and it runs fine, but when I turn on everything on high settings on games like Raven Shield, it overheats and freezes.

So, a question. Is a fan blowing out of the PC cooler or blowing in cooler? I doubt that you would need extensive knowledge in thermodynamics to know, but IDK. (Note: I have the case open.)

You want one blowing in and one blowing out. Ideally you want more air going out of the case than into the case, creating negative pressure, which sucks more air into the case. Having the case open actually disrupts the airflow and can lead to higher temperatures.

You didn't really answer my question, but thanks anyway. :)

I don't know what fan to buy though... or how much it will be D:

So, I'll close the case now and see what happens.

eDIT: mainboard temp went up by 3 degrees celsius (36), HDD is stable (44), and CPU went up by 0.5 (47)

When I have the window open and the case open, its much cooler though. :/

No, it's not a good idea to run it open, as mentioned previously. You want to have a decent airflow through the computer.

Sorry, in which case, i would imagine that a fan blowing air out will do more for the temps than a fan blowing air in, as theoretically, as long as there is sufficient ventilation (i.e. holes for air to enter though) then the same quantity of air should be sucked in due to the negative air pressure, as is being blown out. But imo you should really have one blowing out and one in also, otherwise you will idd get overheating, todays components really do require a decent airflow, at the least a couple of 80mm fans, ideally a couple of 120mm

Take off the side, and put a box fan next to it. That'll cure all overheating problems.

:P

I have the sickest setup ever. Three smaller fans blowing out, and one enormous fan with a filter sucking in. Eliminates huge amounts of dust, and is just... awesome. I even have a "1337 switch" so when it's in 1337 mode, the fan and the blue cold lighting is on.

I've just ordered 2 more 80mm fans. I should I have them?

I currently have one blowing in, in the backside. I have 1 'slot' remaining in the side, and 1 more slot in the back. So, do I have the side one blowing in and the back ones blowing out?

EDIT: to the above question. Probably, because when I have my window open to draw in some below freezing air, it never freezes.

lol that just made me laugh

I have two 80mm fans blowing in from the front and one 120mm blowing from the back. I kinda disrupt the airflow by having a 80mm fan on the top blowing out and a PCI slot fan underneath the video card blowing out as well. So: 160mm blowing in, 280mm blowing out.

Have the back fans blow out. Side and front fans will bring air into the case. If you have the case open then the heatsinks do get cooler air but other parts of the motherboard that don't have airflow will actually be hotter. By having the case closed you have airflow for everything in the case and dust does not pile up nearly as quick.

Getting the case off the floor as well as leaving room between the rear of the case and the wall will help a lot.

Weeee! Got the fans for free (I won something, I think).

Thank you people. I appreciate your help.
