I do ALOT of burning/backing up of files that I get, cuz I never like to lose anything. So I was wondering, what are the absolute best cd's for burning? I'm currently using STAPLES blank cd's, and they havent done me wrong yet. However, in terms of long-lasting (years), what're the best blanks out there?

If you are doing pure archiving, just buy another hard drive, that is the cheapest and best long-term solution. For smaller files (under 128 MB) that I need to transport aroound, I have several USB flash drives.

As for CD-R's, I dislike them. The Arizona heat absolutely kills CD-R's in a couple of years. I never use CD-R's on anything important, only for music.

I've had good luck with TDK as well.
But brand name means nothing.

You need to know which factory it was made at. You can check where the disks were made and look it up online.

Princo and Ricoh are some disks that are well known but I'm not sure how well they are.

Taiyo-Yuden discs are probably one of the best. But you don't know what Brandname they will be under or who made the brandname disks without research.

CDfreaks.com is a good place.

...have we not been over this? lol

I'm not sure if we have been over it lol. However, I am EXTREMELY paranoid. I don't want to be like 5 years from now, "hey! look here's my good old cs 1.6 maps! let me have a run on them for some good memories." pop the cd in, and it be blank/errors.

Mind you, I take extremely good care of my cd's. They're in a huge cd case with pocketed sleeves. And the temperature in my room varies from normal to cold (never hot).

gettin lazy in ur old age eh asus. ;)

I grabed CD Mate and checked out my 100PK of CDs.
I am using TDK CDs right now and they are made by Ritek using Phthalocyanine. Good stuff

My dad has an older 50Pk of TDK which is from CMC.
Tested some of my old FujiFilm discs and they are Taiyo Yuden Company Limited. I'll be checking FujiFilm more often. :)

Ok so apparently Kodak and Mitsui are the best. However, I'm finding nothing wrong with my staples cd's. Is there any way i can test these cd's to see if theyre any good?

yes, but itll take a few years of waiting.

so staples will last is what ur saying?

all are good except lifetec cd's
they get easy damaged with 1 scratch

You might want to check out a 1 TB external usb hd (or 0.5 TB) by maxtor (or some other brand), they seem quite useful as storage devices :) Only problem is the price of course.

I would but I simply can't afford external hd's. I still have 1400 to pay off for the comp I have now. I'm stuck using cd's, which isnt a bad thing, I just want to make sure I have cd's that wont not work a year from now.
