According to a poll on the Steam Forums: Steam doesn't work on half of all people's computers.

So, how about you? Does it work on your computer? Participate in the poll!

you included an "I DIDNT INSTALL STEAM YET" option. how thoughtful!

I still stand by the theory that people who can't get STEAM to work are the people who can't figure out how to tie their own shoe laces.

No, seriously, the people who can't get STEAM to work are at fault. I swear, I've installed STEAM 3 times on 3 different machines and never ran into one problem. That leads me to believe it's user error, who knows how much spyware/useless programs 95% of the STEAM users are loaded up with.

If it was a poll like this one then isn't there just a small possibility that 90% of the people that said no just haven't actually downloaded Steam yet?

Clearly wrong forum.

No one's gonna read this thread here, though. ah well

Steam is HL2 related.. but I see your point :)

It does usually work yeah. But Valve's gonna be in a shitload of trouble when HL2 is launched. They've got some serious optimizing to do.

Mine worked, then broke, then worked again, then broke. I think it works now.

Quake is HL related which is related to HL2 but I won't have Quake conversations in the HL2 discussion board. That's what the off topic forum's for :p

Same situation here.

We do leave the footprint there though so if anyone's bothered they'll see the title of the thread on the HL2 discussion board.

While Steam doesn't work perfectly (i.e. small bugs and crashes now and again), it does run acceptably and yes I can join and play games.

maybe a mod can haxor the poll and include the "i haven't installed Steam yet" option... ??

then maybe we can try and understand how pple are dealing with Steam.

Works like a charm, streaming Op4 rules!

People that want to complain sign up at the steam forums for help/whineing.

Thats why so many people say it doesent work on those forums I reckon

I mean look at these results. I think thats quite a fair percentage of people who got it to work just fine. :)
Also, some people I know just dont want to reinstall steam because they had a bad experience when they first got it. :(
That might account for sumthin.

i agree... and maybe its time they got off their rocker and actually did something :p

sure Steam was hella buggy at one time, but its drastically improved since then and its about time those that had those bad experiences try again..

its like learning to ride a bike, u fall, get up and try again :p

works fine now, after all the patches. the strange "bug" where it accessed the hd for 5 minutes is gone. and the loading times are as good as with old hl now. it even is better than the beta versions were now, the first final was more buggy than the betas. i have no problem with steam.

I can't play since the last few updates, it broke D3D.

Not Steam's fault, that was a game update, not an update to Steam itself.

Added the 'I havent installed Steam yet' option, sorry for it taking so long.

Steam works fine for me.

Steam works fine for me. Keep in mind though, that most of the people visiting the steam forums are likely there because it does not work, most people don't visit those forums ever and just play, because it works on the majority of computers well. Polls like these are always subject to bias because of the user base on forums.
