Accused of cheating

I'm a 36 yr old father of two sons that likes to play HL2 DM. I played HL1 back in the day and tried the DM version but always got my butt kicked because of dial up. Now I have dsl and can actually play w/out having circles run around me. I have a couple favorite maps, one being lockdown and other overlook. I do pretty good on them if there is a small group playing. The other day I was having a good game in lockdown and then map changed to overlook and I was still doing well, then I got kicked for cheating. I don't have a clue how to cheat or care to even learn. I play the game for kicks and entertainment and it is a pastime my sons and I can share.
??- How the heck do you prove to someone that you are Not cheating in a game if you are having a good day playing. btw, I do use crouch often to avoid getting my butt kicked but see a majority using it also in the games I have played. Anyhow, I'll keep playing and having a good time, just wanted to vent and see if there is a way to prove I am playing fair.
P.S. my sons also play on my user name but do not know how to cheat either and I am usually watching their games while they play. Sorry for the long rant.

There is no way to prove that you are indeed playing legitimately, so the best thing you can do is take it as a complement, and go along with your game.
 
Pfft the *dirty* clan have banned me from their server becuase they think I cheat - ****wits :)

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to actually prove you're not cheating. The guy who kicked you probably is just beligerent to players who beat him like alot of the players in HL2DM are. It's unfortunate but true.

In nicer terms, it alters the hitboxes, so when your crouching (with combine models more than rebel i think) you can't get headshotted hardly at all. Nothing you can do, but who cares? Don't take it personally, just join another server. Their just usually having a bad day, forget about it.

Oh and the map is in fact dm_overwatch not overlook :)
 
Thanks for the replys. I learned crouching from all the players I see doing it in the maps I play. I figure it is just a strategy, similar to what would be used in real life combat to lessen your hit area and not much different than other tactics like hiding around corners for cover. I have been killed many times in that position lately, so I think others are figuring out where to shoot for a kill on crouchers. Also, I don't crawl around the whole game doing it either. Anyhow, I'm still having fun and enjoying the game so look for me out there and gimme your opinion on whether or not you think I'm cheating. I play mostly on West coast servers and am usually getting my butt kicked, not winning (on a good day I am 50/50 on kills/deaths) Later :cheers:

Strange that people doesnt' crouch in Q3 or UT etc. when they're 3 feet away from their opponent in the middle of a gunfight ;) Not like drop down now and then, but crouch and stay crouched. Wonder how many will do it if it's every fixed in HL2DM ;9
 
I only accuse people of cheating in CS (only because its blatantly obvious), but not in DM matches because its too darn chaotic

Plus, we can even beat the hackers.



In my opinion, crouching generally is not a good thing. "Sprint jumping," a technique similar to bunny hopping in DM1 that makes the player raom around the map in a faster way, is what you should use.

Taken from my guide:

Also, rather than sprint jumping, crouching is optional and in some
conditions, better. You go faster while crouching than just jumping if you're
not sprinting and want to save energy, but it also sets you on a linear path.
Turning while doing so will immensely slow you down, and stop the "crouch
jumping." Also, while crouch jumping, try to land on small objects such as
drawers or small boxes. With good enough timing, when you jump off the object,
you'll go zooming across as this is a phsyics "glitch" in Half-Life 2.

Crouching is useful in many games to make a smaller target, although it's
disadvantage is that you're movement is slower and that it's easier to get a
headshot on you. However, in Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, crouching itself is an

a headshot on somebody that's crouching, which makes it even more deadly. If
you'd rather remove the risk of a headshot than dodge a lot, then crouching is
your answer. Beware of those that use it, and aim for areas from feet to their
lungs, as those areas are where hitboxes actually still exist.

Because then you become a Target for an easy frag for somebody with a Rocket Launcher or a Railgun or a Flak Cannon or etcetera.
 
lungs are where the headshot hitbox is, btw. Test it out by when you first see their name when going from the head, down with the mouse.


When you see their name, shoot there, and that'll be where the head is hitbox-wise.

Instead of someone with a crossbow, SMG with grenads or a table or file cabinet or even the RPG.. Whoa.. big difference.
 
People don't whore those weapons though...the ones I listed people do whore. That's the major difference.
 
Sometimes they don't even bother with the cheating excuse.

I was kickbanned from Ebaums server without any reason given. Presumably for winning.

Isnt it like that so you can fit in vents? It will never be fixed. That was a major **** up by valve.

They could make vents bigger.
 
They wont though because
a. they would have to remake lockdown
b. the vents would have to be stupidly big
c. all custom maps using vents would have to be remade
They shouldve made us able to crawl or just left vents out.
 
Actually, all they would need to do is change the crouch animation so that the players crouch low enough to fit in the lockdown vent.

If they couldve done that they wouldve done it from the start, no? I think theyve got it about as low as they can. Even if they could make it lower it probably wouldnt be low enough but bear in mind ive not played hl2/dm for ages so maybe theres a bit more headroom so to speak than i remember.
 
By simpley hunching the shoulders more, and leaning the head forward a lot more tbh..

That's all that needs to be done, and to fix the hitboxes to co-incide with that.
 
If someone is crouching, whip out your Crowbar and charge!
Actually, once you get the hang of the crowbar, and sprint tactics, you can do pretty damn good.
 
Crowbars rock. That's why I'm suicide rush charlie on most servers...
 
Most ppl crouch thro bad habbits picked up in other games, they believe it will improve accuracy i.e. RtCW and RtCW: ET. Both of these use stance and movement to produce an array of of different accuracies.

Stand still = Good
Crouching = Better
Prone = Best

Unfortunately what you gain in accuracy, is a gamble that is offset by who has you in their sights. As you are stationery, you greatly increase you ability to catch most of the gunfire thrown your way.

Crouching in HL2DM = Sitting Duck.
Stand still = Dead quickly.

You can fool the new players to the game intent on headshots, but they will soon catch on.

It would be nice if they changed the character animation, but I wont hold my breath.
 
Yeah, that's another good reason why people don't crouch in Q3\UT. If you crouch you move slower obviously, thus making yourself an easy target. Too many people bother to crouch unfortunately.
 
I usually only Crowbar, and Grenade (With Grav Gun) on nice ping servers, and I can hold my own.
Yes, crouching makes you an easy target.
 
The flaw of the system is there are only ways to prove a player is cheating but no ways to prove the player's innocence.
 
People that call other people cheaters just because they owned them should be beaten :p

this just happened to me not even 5 minutes ago. i was playing on a server called -=SBD=- Halflife 2 deathmatch new players recruiting. or a name close to that. i was playing with 4 other people on dm_lockdown. now i am slaughtering the competition with 25 kills and about 3 deaths. This guy -=SBD=-Extr3me-Xg- or whatever it was says VAC is telling him i am using hacks. the server did not have VAC running and i have never cheated in hl2dm nor do i know how to. after he tells me im hacking i get kicked and banned. unbelieveable! i must be as good as i know i am lol. i'm pretty annoyed by this!
 
Whats the ip? Could be worth a giggle. I'm yet to be banned from a server, but I'm usually on the same ones and people know me.
