My, oh my... Valve has done it once again and slaughtered the opposition by introducing achievements for TF2 (we know), Episode 2 and Portal, but not only that, CSS, HL2DM and DODS are getting them aswell... GOOD IDEA!

Achievements have never meant much to me, but recently I've gone through Bioshock five times to get all the achievements hidden in that, and I plan on doing the same for the Orange Box.

That said, if they weren't there it wouldn't make much difference, but they don't harm anyone so I see nothing to complain about, which unfortunatly, some people do complain about. Odd. :\

Sounds fun to moi. There's absolutely nothing to complain about here, really.

I don't see how this could be considered a bad idea by anyone, because it can't affect you in a negative way, ever.

Surprises me someone voted it anyway.

I don't really care, but I'm OK with them as long as they don't intrude on the game itself.

Yeah, as I see it, the way they have implemented the achievments can only have positive effects. Its a fantastic way to increase the replay value of the Orange Box in general, especially Episode 2.

What, exactly, are these achievements? Finding secret areas? Killing a certain number of enemies? Using a the right gun and the right time?

Anything to add replayability to the game is fine with me.

Good idea, with the following qualifications: it should all be difficult/semi-obscure stuff like putting the Dog's ball through the basket, and it shouldn't be officially publicized.

I think there might be some slightly different from the xbox version, like 'kill a total of 200 combine' or 'Destroy 5 striders not using strider busters' etc

36. Pacifist
Contain the Citadel core without killing any stalkers..

what the hell how?

43. The One Free Bullet
Beat Episode One firing exactly one bullet. Grenade, crowbar, rocket, and Gravgun kills are okay!.

and holy..

36 - this about those two in core its possible + npc on x360 have very low skill

You do know that the Episode 1 and HL2 packed in the Orange Box retroactively recieve the new AI upgrades?

Does this mean we get achievements for Ep1 and HL2 on PC now?

I think achievements is a good idea, as long as it dont pop up on the screen...

If it pops up with the symbol in the corner, and the name of the ACH under it, it shouldn't be that big a deal. As long as it doesn't stop the game to tell me I did it.

Btw, do the points do anything, or is it just for fun?

I dont want to say AI is bad. I want to say AI ist optimized for console steering :)

The A.I. in the HL2 port for the Xbox was exactly the same as it was on the PC. That's not saying much, I know, as the A.I. is optimized enough as it is (ho ho ho) but it isn't going to change anytime soon because Valve aren't retards, they don't pussyfoot about the elitist line between those that can't adopt to using a controller and will run said controls to the ground beneath the might of the mouse and keyboard, and the regular, clever people that can and will happily use both.

I don't get why people are complaining about the achievement actually popping up on the screen. It's there for like a second.

Well, I had no problem with them in Bioshock and I sincerely doubt Episode 2 will even come close to pulling me in as much as that did, but fair enough I guess.

Quick question - if you purchase the orange box for PC, but already own Half Life 2 and Episode 1, will the AI upgrades and/or the acheivements be added to our original copies via an update of some sort?

I wouldn't like achievments popping up in-game either :\

Congratulations, you get free butshechs. Bend over.

Yea, HL2 and Ep1 will be exactly the same for everyone regardless if they are "Orange Box copies" or not.

I really love stuff like achievements. I hope they continue to put them in their games + add more to existing ones in TF2.

I don't think they do. If they do I didn't notice them in TF2.

King of page 3, 300th post!! It's a sign!

Enjoy it while it lasts, after you hit the 14th thousand or the 140th hundred it loses it's novelty :D

just wat i always do :) ... dont judge me...

They don't make much sense for me in single player games. Kick 5 tin cans to get an achievement, yay. Oh well, I'll probably get them anyways just to do some /flex, but I'm afraid I'll get too focused on them to fully enjoy the game.

In multi player games they represent a danger to your opponents - not that the Team Fortress 2 archievements are that hard to gain. But at least, it (can) show if your opponent is determined foe or not. You know one who's gained Grey Matter (25 headshots), is a sniper you should look out for more than one without.
