I played the Demo the other night, and wo-ho! I haven't seen so much detail in a RTS before (Generals comes in second place). Every thing seems to be scaled appropriately, those of you have played would have known, so no infantry unit is as big as trees like in previous games.

Two shots below shows the amount of detail.

The one below is of Buckingham Palace

And another of a Fire at a Refinery

If you feel compelled to find out more about the game, drop in at Atari's site

You will see me in the forums.

ugh, atari. after 2 games with them, im never going back. their almost as bad as EA

I see why you have a warning level of five.

I liked the demo, I'll most likely be buying the game.

I didn't like the demo level all that much, especially the map. Those city maps in the screens look far more interesting than bland ye olde desert town maps. So I'll probably be waiting for some opinions before picking it up.

that's basically what I think. It's one of those games where you spend ages using the same squad of men and making them amazing, then you turn your head for a second and they die. damn.

I want an RTS that instead of focusing on large battles, focuses on a few squads. The type of game where your entire army would consist of a few humvees, a coulple of squads, some snipers and a tank. Then imagine if you could upgrade them... give the tank improved shells, give a couple of humvees extra armour and the others some improved rocket launchers. And when i say upgrades i mean 20 decent improvements possible to each individual unit or something.. that would rock! Instead of having a pre-made general or elite unit, you make your own.

I think standard RTS speeds would be too fast for such a game. Before you could blink twice your squads could be driven over by a random truck or mown down by a guy with a gun (unless you use unrealistic amounts of health). Which, I just noticed, is the same problem you mentioned about Act of War.
RTS can work in realtime because you don't have to tell every unit what to do, you simply tell a lot of units what to do and they'll manage, some die and some don't. On such a small scale you'd need more control, and there's only so much you can do if you have .3 seconds to respond. The game would have to slow down during combat or use turns of a kind. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it wouldn't be an RTS as such :p

You say it's going to be glorius, yet you mention nothing but the graphics. My so-so-game-ometer starts to ring.

I played ground control, it was ok... but i want a game where you actually upgrade your troops individually. and about the RTS problem... if you gave the units bloody good AI you could make tanks really slow, and make units automatically run out the way of oncoming tanks etc... i don't know! use your imagination :D

I have a feeling you might like warzone 2100.
:)
Not the best graphics,(The developer had to shut down, has a very unique way to make units. 2400+. You choose there body, weapon, wheels. Tons of things to research...I mean tons...not 200..not 500...like 1000 and how it comes for when you research is very unique and great. The more kills each indivudal gets the better he will become, you can control if your guys shoot far away, close, or medium. Can tell them to retreat if there hurt badly(As a setting for each indiviual units whiel you can select more than one for this screen).

One of the most unique, fair, fun, RTS's out there that never made it. It's quite fun. The community finally got the source code like a month ago. There rewriting a ton of things to allow for better graphics etc..(The game was fully 3D when it was made and well..looks...*crap*, but hey still very very fun).

You would probably love this game.
Air unit kinda strikes.
I mean it's real nice to design a unit then produce it. The interferance is very smooth. After you design it you can see all the info about it. How much weight it has, damage etc... Real real nice. You could make a hovercraft Mortor vehicle. Then in an instant you can go back and make a Full Track Mortor Vehicle. Various bodies, not just weapons.

It's VERY unique.

It's abandonware, as it can no longer be bought(In other words i've been waiting since.... 5 years for my copy to ship to me).

You can dl a demo, just ask in the forums(On the site im gonna give you at the end of this post) for the full copy, there somewhere on there. Otherwize, onless ebay or some other site lke that, there is no real way to ever get it.
It is also online with....gamespy.... Though you can just skirmish against comps.

That is your new knowledge of a game in 1999, yet fun, could have been a sc killer and dethroner if tweaked a bit more and bit more balanced, yet it is quite balanced already.

finally something to fill the void in my heart which the latest c & c game left me with.

I think the opening level is a shoot out in front of Buckingham Palace which should be interesting

I like the idea, I came up with a simialr idea where you upgrade the AI by selecting a tactic or training you men to react accordingly to each obstacle.

Upgrade Infantry to SAS = Very efficient killers at high level of intelligence.

Atari rocks.

Ut2004
Unreal 2

Getting act of war for sure. Looks like my type of rts.

Wow Minerel, I didn't think anyone still played Warzone 2100. Thats one of the greatest games I've ver played.
