Do you guys know of any action RPG's that I can go out and buy right now? I really want to play one, but I don't feel like playing Diablo, Diablo 2, or Morrowind. I want something new.

I pretty much don't have the patience to learn and play a traditional RPG (Baldur's Gate and the like).

So...start naming some games.

Dungeon siege IS action rpg Hack 'n' SLash. Its fun. Don't know too much aboot it, I just played the demo.

Dungeon Siege... i think, Action RPG = Hack 'n' Slash isnt it?

Yeah, Action RPG = Hack 'n' Slash with loot.

Dungeon Siege, I'll check that out.

Star wars: knights of the old republic....great game:)

like..gothic 1 and 2 are the best rpg-s after kotor imo

There is one, i guess you might like it..
Nox.
It has...err..decent graphics. Was very easy to learn, though was hard going to that and then to diablo back in the day. Since the controls were diffrent(You can edit them though i was to stupid back when i played em to relize that).

Nox is pretty overall decent, alot of spells, quick paced multiplayer(actually there are a few multiplayer types), very east to learn.

Otherwize just buy Wc3x, find a 3rd\1st person map n there you go.
You also could always go out and find hellfire(d1 expansion done by sierra), lol.

I want a Diablo 3. The classes in D2 are boring to me...and on bnet all people seem to want to do is make a badass char for cows or duels. It needs more depth if you ask me.

The problem is when you add depth, it makes it for people to create a character and start a game. I don't feel like roling imaginary dice for 40 minutes, then spend another 2 hours creating a party, and then choosing my alignment. Not to mention that it takes like 4.5 years to understand how to play a traditional computer-based RPG.

I don't find it fun having to spend 4 hours reading a manual to learn how to play and then another 8 hours consulting the manual while playing the game.

That was the great thing about Diablo 2. It had a fair amount of depth (character classes, skill sets, set items), but it didn't loose me at the gate. That is part of the reason why I am intrigued by EQ2. It looks like it starts you off slowly and then expands the depth of the game as you level up.

I am going to check out dungeon siege and goth. KOTOR doesn't intrigue me, I'm not a big fan of Star Wars games.

I'm not saying that D2 needs D&D style char creation. I think that they just needed more diversity in characters. They all seem kind of basic. If you're going down say the path of a fire sorceress...there's like 5-6 abilities you'll want to get...not much more.

Anyways...Dungeon Siege is a pretty good game...I played it with 3 other friends when it came out. One melee, one nature magic, one combat magic...and me.. ranged. I am extremely annoyed at the game because ranged levels get you absolutely nothing. Melee gets more dmg and the two magic schools get new spells...ranged gets jack squat. Dungeon Siege 2 look cool though. Looks more in-depth for abilities and such (Dungeon Siege has no abilities beyond magic).

i know theyve been mentioned, but i must repeat as they are awesome:

in order of my prefrance:
BAULDERS GATE 2 = freeform fantasy RPG, completely customisable character, huge world map and hundreds of quests. best PC RPG ever.
STAR WARS: KOTOR = Based on the D&D engine, but simpler and more linear than BG2. but then again, it has lightsabers. and wookies. and an amazing story. and light side. and dark side. if you dont fancy an old fashoined RPG like BG2, BUY THIS NOW!!
FALLOUT 1 + 2 = post nuclear RPG- and amazingly satisfying. It has a non - linear story (althought there is only one ending) and a truly huge map of the USA that has been reduced to desert bar from a few straggling towns. truly amazing game- its so satifying to kill people, and when you discover a rare item a smile gleams across your face. its £15 for fallout 1, 2 and tactics.. so buy it. you dont have an excuse.
NEVERWINTER NIGHTS = baulders gate but 3D, and more linear.

note: all of these games have been made by Black isle and/ or bioware, and these two companies are basically the same. meaning THEY OWN AT MAKING RPGS!!!! too bad black isle have disbanded i think.. im not entirely up to date with these things... :(

alternativy you could buy a PS1 and final fantasty 7, 8 or 9. not so much hack and slash, but theyre the best RPGs on any console. but dont go near number 10. it smells.

I think what the Diablo series needs is....more point to it all. Make it more of a duel type game, get it out of "Rush, kill cows till 99, new char, rush, kill cows to 99, die, get pissed, kill cows till lvl 99"
It needs more of a point thats all i gotta say.
Though, I think they should remake Diablo 1 in full 3d\3rd person.
I mean seeing a person with a spear going threw them laying on an alter with blood dripping from them onto the floor of the labriynth. It would really bring it all out.

Who agrees! Overall D1 had a story, pretty decent... D2 came lousy in that area and strived to have no true point as no one dueled to much.

But a full 3D Diablo 1 would be...heaven..

They're back, under the name Obsidian Entertainment (well, some of them are).
Current projects are Knights of the Old Republic 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2.
