I really didn't think they could be any more blatantly greed motivated, but they have once again outdone themselves. They are hosting an "Indie" games competition. But from the looks of it, they are really hosting a "Give us your innovative ideas and full plan of execution and we may even put your name on it in the end, if we feel like it."

Enjoy reading one of those indie devs tearing apart the competition rules.

:|

So... they fire a bunch of people from several studios because their games don't constitute a long-term franchise of multiple games a year... so they're going to the indie community for ideas? This seems kind of ass-backwards to me.

Yep, sounds like Activision alright. :P

But what does it say about the gaming community which take part in these activities? Activision could put a steaming turd on the cover of a Call of Duty game and it would sell millions. A lot of people will probably enter this "competition" as well. We only have ourselves to blame. They wouldn't be doing this stuff if we weren't buying their shit.

What was that other thing Activision was doing, for map packs: anything you submit becomes their property to do what they want with it, and you have no rights to it whatsoever.

They wanted people to make the maps for their games, and not have to pay any employees to do it. (~30 employees quit for not getting paid)

What a terrible company. I wish I could boycott them more than once.

Wow. That was pretty much what I expected.

wow reading through the fine print they're such ******** aren't they?

It's a good idea for a comp though, aside from the IP grab.

Usually these competitions expect teams to spend a year or more building a game that might not win, but in this they just submit pre-production visuals/anims/videos, then the team that wins can hire some employees to make the game.

Now, if only a legit company would do a comp like this.

Wait I just re-read this:
acknowledgement of Sponsor's development of game concepts that may be similar to entrant's Submission
That's basically saying, If Activision decides that it wants to not pay you any money but instead just copy your idea wholesale you can't sue because you signed a contract saying you acknowledge the fact that Activision can be making a game that is suspiciously identical to the one you showed them?

Stay classy Activision. :smoking:

Edit: Oh I see now. If you've publicly announced the game you're disqualified. So someone comes in to Activision says that they've got this great idea for a game where you have to solve puzzles by heating/cooling objects in the game but it's top secret so only you and Activision know about it. A week later Activision announce their new game where you have to solve puzzles by cooling/heating objects in the game. You say "Hey you stole that idea from us!" and Activision says "We announced it first, and you signed this contract saying you admit we might have had the same idea first so shut up or we'll sue you for slander. Now if you want you can come work for us and develop our game..."

yeah that was the most suspicious statement i found

i didnt like this one too much either

release of claims against Sponsor

Basically none of the ex-IW staff can enter this comp if they want to keep up their lawsuit :P

Once you've phrased it like that it just makes me hate Kodick even more :flame:
