Adam Sessler's opinion on the "black issue" from RE5

I mirror his statements about the people who are always quick with the watermelon and fried chicken jokes(though he mentioned more than that).

Get off the internet.

I'll say it again, it's not a racism issue, it's a, "how can we sue and rip everyone off so we don't have to work" issue. :P I know plenty of good black folk, but many are a bunch of manipulative opportunists, liars, and cheaters and will do whatever it takes to get on top (money wise maybe, but not in society) without actually having to work for it. Even Bill Cosby is ashamed at what his race has become and is not afraid to call these lazy African-Americans on their BS.

I for one am glad that our race (white) had an opportunity to star and get blasted apart by the R.C.P.D survivors in RE2 and RE3, but that's just me.

BTW: Adam Sessler is a douche. I don't know the guy, but you can just look at him and tell. :P

There is a bit of a double standard here. Army of Two featured two white guys mowing through hundreds and hundreds of Middle Eastern people while fist pounding and air guitaring with glee. Nobody really commented on the "racism" in that. It's just the historic racial tensions in the US that make RE5 seem worse, and in other parts of the world it's not as sensitive. Are we going to be like Germany and ban anything that strikes a historic nerve? If you look at it objectively the game is no more "racist" than Crysis, GTA, CoD, or any of the dozens modern warfare games that have players killing tons of minority cannon fodder enemies.

Agreed about it being unsettling, but honestly, that's kind of the point - it's a horror game ffs. I honestly don't see how this has any parallels to the real world that could cause offense, seems like the only issue people have with it is that they're black (in Africa, wow), and that they "look kind of sinister" (they're zombies, wow). I think it's less a case of racism and more a case of how sensitive and vocal parts of the black community (and others who share their views) can be at times. Don't want to be judged by the colour of your skin? How about paying yourself the same courtesy.

Besides which, you know, it seems like the main group who are offended by this are americans. Someone want to point out where they are in that trailer? Seems like putting yourself under one big ambiguous umbrella, calling it "black", and then bitching whenever someone rains on it is a little bit unfair. Oh I know, let's play our favourite game, "Let's See How We Can Link This Back To Slavery And Oppression In The Most Arbitrary Way Possible!" Fun for the whole family.

Anyway, that's probably taking it a little too far, but seriously - it's a game. We've been shooting up every ethnic stereotype under the sun for years without stepping on any major toes, no difference here. If you ask me, blacks have had it eeeeeeeeeeasy. :P

Resident Evil 4.

I never liked G4 or adam sessler. But I will say I completely disagree with him. No one complained with a huge list of games I can mention:
cod 4 (killing russians and middle easterns, quite relevant in today's news)
crysis (killing koreans, quite relevant in todays news also)
army of two (killing iraqis and afghanitanis, alo quite relevant in today's news)

but resident evil 5 unlike the others I mentioned does not have an underlying storyline driving the player to kill them not as enemies or zombies but as africans. God what do people expect it is set in africa of course it's going to have black people in it!

Although adam shunned that guy complaining about fried chicken and watermelon, that was just stupid because that guy had a point and was also IMO completely right. If RE5 does show black people in that way then yes it is racist but RE5 does not do that.

i for one wouldnt say spanish people are white as such, its not exclusively because theyve got a nice tan from the warm weather all year round that they have a darker complexion than a regular Caucasian as far as i see it.

either way, even if we were to say spaniards are 'white' like most people in the uk for instance, it doesnt make it any less "racist" if you like to have lots of them being blown apart in a game by a white guy. it could be the french, or people from eastern europe, wherever. the important thing is the reason why your killing them, is it because they are a spanish/african or whatever, or is it because the game takes place in those countries.

oh yeah and for the record, i dont think the whole RE5 thing is racist at all, its political correctness gone mad... again. i mean its in africa and its not like theyve just made up a new white character to go killing them all, hes an established character of the series who just so happens to be white.

havent watched the video but would like to add that while issues of racism sound silly on the surface there may be some underlying truth to the controversy ..not in the charge of racism, I dont think the developers are being racist in this particular case but they can be accused of being at the very least insensitive or not forward thinking enough to not draw some parrallel between the virus that causes zombie-ism tied to africa and the aids epidemic in africa ...so while they're not, imho guilty of racism (at least in that I havent heard a complelling argument to date) they're guilty of not being at least aware that they might cause some controversy (which would pretty stupid of them and a PR failure) ..which is odd because for the most part developers stay away from issues of race like the plague

anyways artistic license protects them from any wrong doing in associating the plot to africa it's just that people with an agenda seek these sort of things out and make it a big deal

Did you just compare zombie-ism to aids, Sterny? :)

If Leon Kennedy is shooting AIDs-infested Africans instead of zombies, I'd say he's doing the world a favor. AIDs, T-virus, it's all outbreaks to him.

tbh i'm a little disgusted how insensitive they've been to white people with RE5. I don't want blacks in my video games!

except with medical intervention people with aids can live productive lives ..zombie-ism unless given a steady diet of brains in secret is ultimately negatively precieved by society at large ..an ostracised zombie is an angry zombie. Leon needs to reach them before they become angry zombies, get at the root of the matter ...he also needs to be less metro(homo)sexual ..not for any particular reason I just cant stand a pretty boy

yes ..it's obvious that zombie-ism started when black people mated with rabid monkeys ..just like the Aids!1!

I completely disagree. So what if it's a white guy killing a bunch of Africans in a video game? So what if it was about Black dude mowing down hapless caucasians? The fact people make a distinction between colour is the issue. It's a guy in a video game killing a bunch of other zombie guys. That's it, nothing more (unless we choose to look for it).

That's BS, its because there are people saying the same thing "We can't forget the past" that racial issues still exist to this day. I'm a minority (South American from Venezuela living in the U.S) and I've been discriminated against before (People actually said they didn't like me because I wasn't "american") but I call this whole thing BS.

Should I have felt insulted or discriminated against by RE4? I'm half spanish by descent, and I speak spanish. Holy shit! This whole time, I didn't feel outraged enough about my situation. Now that people have explained to me how racist it is to shoot multicultural zombies, I think I'm going to picket at the White House now.

I can't say it any better than the discussion that they had on GFW's podcast this week. Anyone interested in the debate should give it a listen.

To call RE5 racist means you yourself must also be racist. Why else would you see a problem with killing hoards of black people. You kill hoards of x in every other game. I couldn't care less about what happened in the past because any actions against blacks have not been made by myself or even my parents. It's just crazy to think we have tread around subjects like this lightly because we cannot offend the black man. **** em.

That said I have friends of every cultural/race persuasion now the ones that play video games don't have a problem with RE5. Why? Because they aren't bloody money grubbing attention whores like the majority of bastards I usually see hanging around late at night. Ah the bogan Aboriginal with no ambition, love em.

what sea say is kind of right

bet you that the skinheads whit swatiskas in theyr rooms and the version of american history x that ends when the dude got arrested for killing the other, will be in first line to buy the game

I think what capcom should do is to put the main character black

I can't believe that the people who love to cry "racism!" at every opportunity can take themselves seriously. They claim to be trying to eradicate racism and integrate cultures, but in reality, they are doing the exact opposite. The fact that there was a white character killing black characters didn't even occur to me until the uproar. It's a sad day when races can't even interact in a fictional and virtual world because people refuse to forget the past.

And it's all such a double standard. I could name games all day in which I was playing a white protagonist killing a smorgasbord of various ethnicities, but people just love to play on the black/white controversy. I've played games where I've shot Vietnamese in a controversial and infamous war, and not zombie Vietnamese either. Was that war just? Was that war something we want to remember? No, but we're still allowed to relive it. It's not like this is a cotton farm simulation or something...

It's really no different from big-breasted chicks in fighting games and whatnot. It's just pixels.
Besides, think of the alternative. Should there be a law saying no games can be set in africa? It's a great setting for a video game and they've gone about it in the only way that makes sense. Wouldn't it be racist if it was set in Africa and there were no black people?

So, them being in Africa should mean they need lots of other races? I don't know, I think everybody is too quick to jump on the, "OH GOD THAT'S RACIST!" bandwagon.

Eh, everybody thinks their over embellished thoughts matter.

So if it was a black guy mowing down a bunch of africans, that would be okay.

On an unrelated note, I got in an argument with a schoolmate yesterday about whether black people who live in Europe are African-Americans.

Christ, I'd say the stereotypical depictions of black people (ie the Cole Train) in certain video games are more racist than this.

I think it's a little bit of a culture shock that will die down once the game is out.

They are ****ing zombies. In all of the resident evils, I never had a problem playing the game - why would I now?

The fact that you rarely - if ever, see a black zombie in the media is probably the entire reason for the shock.

I'm sure there are some friendlies in the game that are Africans.

I think the setting looked awesome in the trailer shown in... 2006?

I respect Adam Sessler, but what the ****?
Honestly, where's the equality? We have video games where (whatever race) kills hundreds of (whatever race), and it's cool. But when it's white people killing hundreds of black people it's racism.
Where's the ****ing equality in that?

On an unrelated note, I got in an argument with a schoolmate yesterday about whether black people who live in Europe are African-Americans.

They're African-Europeans, obviously.

Wolfenstein is racist against Germans.

People need to stop acting like big blubbering vaginas and treat people normally.

"Hi, I'm black."
"Hi"
"Hi, I'm white."
"Hi"
"Hi, I'm all the colours of the rainbow."
"Hi. So, do you taste like rainbows aswell?"

Out goes racism, in comes rational thought. Unfortunately, that step is just a bit too far for most people.

"WUT?! TREAT BLACK PEOPLE WITH THE SAME RESPECT AS WHITE PEOPLE?! ARE YOU ON CRACK MY GOOD MAN"

SAVE THE BLACK AFRICAN ZOMBIES.

In all seriousness though, since when did some fruit loops opinion over at G4 carry any weight? What's up with that? The day something spewed from the butt-cheeks of G4 is taken seriously is the day I throw myself into the Marianna Trench, ball and chain in tow.

I find this whole racial issue a load of bollocks and frankly if you truly believe there's an issue here with us blasting away black ZOMBIES in AFRICA then you sir are a moron. The standard argument is yeah, nobody complains when we're mowing down white zombies or Spanish zombies but standard or not it is completely valid and true. To make an issue out of this is to incite the unsettling racial tones you are claiming exist in the first place.

Africa is not immune to Zombie infection, folks.

Very silly, there have been plenty of games where we're pitched into warfare (or at least conflict) between races. The whole basis of Settlers III was for Romans, Asians and Egyptians to duff each other up in order to see who was the superior race. In BF2 the only mixed race faction was USMC, and then if one wanted to you could construe that faction as racist as all "heavy" troops (AT, Assault & Support) were black and all "light" (Medic, Engineer, SF, Sniper) troops were white (based on what one can spawn as, of course anyone can pick up anyone else's kit). Are Whites not worthy of Body Armour? Are blacks only capable of operating as simple grunts? More importantly, did anyone cry racist?

Additionally, if this were a black man fighting wave after wave of whites (oh, lets say, in Austria rather than Africa for example) would there be the same outcry?

Sessler's a ****ing racist for finding it unsettling. Get this arsehole sacked.

This, and this:

True, GTA: San Andreas is packed with negative black stereotypes, by all means it's more "racist" than RE5.

I, and everyone I know, have no problem playing the quadrizillion tactical shooters out there where you slaughter horde after horde of Arab terrorists/soldiers/etc. because:
1. It's a f*cking game.
2. It's a sad fact of life that there are quite a few Arab terrorist groups and rogue nations out there.

Therefore I don't see why anyone is making a big deal out of a game where you kill African people in Africa.

This is the type of shit I ****ING HATE! The game now has a chance to be changed because of morons like this. How can you say this game is racist. There simply isn't ANYTHING racist about it. I HATE ****ING HATE all this ****ing power may it be whites pussies or black leechers.

I always say this and i have black friends who whole heartily agree.

There's a different between a ****** and a Black person same as a White person from Trailer Trash.
