admin_slowhack

I was just on a CS server, and some dumbarse admin thought I was cheating, so he used admin_slowhack on me.. after it did whatever, it execed me to quit. Fine, I don't care, there are plenty of other servers out there.

However, after that happened, STEAM can't connect to any games, no games will show up in the server list.. nothing. I can however talk on Friends.. other than reinstalling STEAM, any idea how to fix this? I'm assuming it did something to some config along the line, I just have no idea what. I'm assuming it was that command that messed me up, since I haven't had a problem like this before and it happened RIGHT after that.

I'm just reinstalling. Upon further inspection, the purpose of admin_slowhack is to make you reinstall HL/CS, and I don't feel like trouble shooting to find the problem file.

execclient is possibly the worst command in HL. I seriously hope it's removed from HL2.

Edit: And to clarify, it wasn't CS. It was STEAM. Obviously I purged my CS config/etc, but with no luck. Not sure why it screwed STEAM over, but still, very annoying.

Aside from reinstalling, there is a fix to this. I decided to do a search on the steampowered.com forums (usually, the place is useless)

The last post. I didn't try it, but it seems like it'd work. Just thought I'd put out an update so if this happens to anyone else, they can fix it without reinstalling.

Hell, that's something newbie admins can abuse, that really sucks, I really hope it is removed from HL1, not just 2.

(Good players get accused for cheating way too often, even if they have never ever used cheats.)

I've hacked before, and I do a VERY good job of making it look like I don't. Only one person got me banned before, and that was because he was hacking too, and could tell I was.

It's amazing how many people hack, really. Once you use hacks, you can clearly pick out everyone who is hacking or not very easily. I suggest you try it sometime on a friends Steam account (heehee) and just see for yourself that about 1/16th of the CS community hacks.

I can spot hackers really easily.. a friend and I used to mess around with HLH on German servers in 1.1.. it's not that hard to tell when people are wallhacking, aimbotting, or using no recoil.

Anyhow, the point here is, the admin had no clue what he was talking about. He didn't even give me a warning, he just assumed I was hacking since I was 19-3 (whoop-de-doo, that's SUCH a cheater score..) I guess.. so he did that to me.

Basically, 12 year olds who can't tie their own shoelaces shouldn't be given admin privs on pub CS server. But, then again, the whole clan seemed pretty pathetic, so go figure.

I really do hope they remove execclient from hl1/2, as it has no practical use other than screwing people over (which can be good, if used by a responsible admin to screw someone other than a legit player over). Overall, execclient is useless and far too exploitable (but hey, atleast it's not like the old days where admins could screw your Windows installation over with it)

Edit: w00t! Strider.. and I switched to Firebird.. does anyone else get a warm, fuzzy feeling using Firebird?

Adminmodded servers display a big warning about the server your connecting to and how it allows the server to run commands on your client. Sadly its hidden away now as you dont see the console upon connecting to a server anymore.

Todays Lesson: Always backup your configs or at least make them read only!

I used to hack on noobie servers for great fun when I felt shitty.

I didn't do it for very long, got boring quickly.

But yeah, I tryed all the hacks on the one I got, wallhack, whitewalls, autoaim, autofire, colored models, etc.

It's really easy to tell who's wallhacking, like if their looking at walls while jumping or just running up to a wall and looking like their tracking something.

Auto-aim you can tell by rows and rows of headshots and FP-view is the best way to determine it.

Auto-fire is easy because if you set it wrong the gun will auto fire on teammates, its really easy to determine if someone is using autofire. Plus people usually use it with wallhack and autoaim.

]SK[, this wasn't a CS config problem. It's easy enough to backup your config, and I did do that.. admin_slowhack screws STEAM up in one way or another. There's apparently a fix if you switch skins back and forth on STEAM, which resets the server browser files..
