Ads show Xbox360 price cut

hmmm make it a $100 but give me a revision that wont have the red ring of death problem and you have a deal ...also throw in two games and an extra controller ...just so that I dont feel like I'm getting ripped off

That would be nice! $50 is on the small side for a price cut but I guess it's something.
Any idea when that new revision is coming? I know they are working on 65nm and get it out the door soon.

I have no idea ..it was speculated that the elite version was supposed to have the revised cpu but that didnt pan out ...you'd think they'd want to fix the problem as soon as possible before it comes back for repair

i've also head that a few refurbished systems have been coming back with a heatsink attached to alieviate the rpoblem but who knows if that's across the board

see the problem might not even be availibility for the part ..last I heard there were 4 million xbox360s in the channels (warehouses, stores etc) ..they pushed out a ton of xbox360s to retailers weary of not filling orders around christmas time just so that MS could reach their goal of 10 million sold by last christmas ..I'm sure things have changed but I dont think they've moved that much since ...perhaps they'll get rid of inventory and then debut the newer version ...but they really have no need to lower prices as Halo3 will sell a shit load of 360s

I agreee with this statement.

If they gave me one of the 65nm X360 Elites for $299 with wireless included I'd jump right on it. *sits back and waits*

I am of the opinion that this is exactly what Sony did: cut price on current model to make room for new (read: better) model on shelves.

So no, this will not make me get one because its a tiny cut on the same crap hardware. I will get a Premium 65nm model when they become available sometime this Fall, but not until then. *Waits in line behind Icarus*

I just want to know where my selection of $150 multi-colored Wii consoles are. 2 years off?

Probably.

Anyways, any price cut on the 360 is great news. And the rumored 65nm process should be excellent and I'm hoping it gets rid of the RROD.

Its not even just that, its the fact that after all of their issues over the past couple of years, they should have learned how to properly attach a heatsink that works.

ya but they're still sitting on millions of unsold 360s or at least the retailers are ...a recall would have been far too expensive ..I think they havent moved to the new 65nm process cuz they still have a ton of unsold units

so basically they're still selling a shitload of problematic 360s ...which kind of explains why they extended warrenties for 3 years

Yup, which is exactly why I (and so many others) wait to buy. I think it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that the new version will be out at latest by the holidays though. I hope that is the case at least!!

I'm thinking not till next holiday season not the coming one ...mostly because Halo3 is coming out so that in itself will sell 360s ...they'll come out with the revision once sales of the 360 start to lag ..right now and in the short term future they really have no need to lower the price/come out with a revision

From everything I have read, it should be this fiscal year at least (which isn't that much longer anyway). See the original article by none other than Dean Takahashi here (or see quote below).

Now it?s easier to see why Microsoft still expects to be profitable in fiscal 2008 with the Xbox 360 business. In this fiscal year, Microsoft will introduce a major cost reduction with the Falcon platform. It will launch Halo 3. And it has already written off in fiscal 2007 the costs of repairing consoles for the next few years.

Yeah, from what I've read it would seem like they would have the 65nm versions out by the end of this year.

Circuit City shows all 3 systems in their ad.
So it's $450 Elite, $350 Prem and $280 Core. Wonder if they will drop prices a bit further when they get rid of the problematic consoles and have mostly 65nm units out there. Or if they will just be close behind this price drop.
