I was just browsing the forums when I heard an annoying pseudo-Spanish accent say "Hola" -and then moments later- "Adios". It's the first time I've ever heard adverts with sound. Stupidly I immediately refreshed the page to stop the annoyance so I didn't manage to get the name of the advertiser. I think it was 'fastclick' or 'firstclick' or something. It was happening every time my mouse passed over the ad (so when I was navigating the forums via the top-left links) and it was really irritating.

How long have these noise-makers been supported? Is it a rogue case or should we expect more on HL2.net?

I've never experienced noise-ads on halflife2.net. Just other sites, that suck.

I've had it before. Had annoying emoticon adverts "Say something" - shouted really loudly, even though my sound wasn't that loud.

And some football advert.

Really irritating. I don't mind normal ads, but sounds suck.

It kind of pisses me off that they have sound now... here is where it's beginning to bother me. :dozey:

We don't run fastclick adverts :O You sure it's not another site or spyware? I don't allow sound ads and have never seen them on this site.

I've seen two sound adverts as well. They're the ones with the smileys.

I can only connect to the internet from where I am through a secure Uni network that enforces system checks on my PC at hourly intervals. I very much doubt it's spyware, but if I see it again I'll definitely note it down for you.

The one I saw had a red and a yellow smiley characters.

I've heard no sound ads, but if they're there that is a bad thing.

I get that one, one that goes "Hiya!" and one that goes "SAY SOMETHING" which I posted a thread on and was completly ignored.

Yeah, you've gotta run your cursor over them, but the smiley one goes "Hola! Adios!" and it's getting on my tits.

That ad blocker works on this site at least, cool. Hopefully it'll block those annoying flash/video adds on sites that increase the bloody loading times.

Percieve's Filtersets block almost every single ad on the internet. Well at least on the 40+ websites I usually surf.

Just remember that the ad's are there to pay for these forums so disable it once a week or something and click on them to help pay for the server costs etc...

We actually get paid by ad views, not the clicks so we miss out on a lot if everyone disables them :|

As long as they don't make noises I'm fine leaving them unblocked.

Don't you get free hosting though?

I'm not aaaaaall that upset for you. :p

And those adds really are starting to Piss Me Off.:frown:

When I first heard them i was really freaked out. Now they're just annoying.

I have yet to see a single sound ad...

Edit - I've now disabled all flash adverts altogether does this stop it?

"I'm counting down the minutes until I can [can't hear] you [can't hear]"

WTF?

That will absolutely fix the problem, and also fix the search menu being hidden problem.

This is true lunacy. I've had them as well (SAY SOMETHING!) and they're annoying as hell.

If that makes anyone laugh, please, please put your head through your monitor now.

That advert infuriates me, it is a testament to everything shit and annoying on the internet.

"Do you find this incredibly lame and boring picture funny?"

"You're a dipshit, how does it feel?"
