Even though I think I'll have a masters degree and 3 children before I unlock and buy everything in this game, and that it seems to be impossible to get an S rank on some maps, I love it.

My favourite CO is Hachi, he's great on a map with loads of cities. Not only does his super power alow you to buy units at half price but you can buy ground units from any city under your control (Neotanks, everywhere!). I also like Eagle (Being able to move all vehicles three times in a dual strike? Yes please!) and Grit.

I haven't bought any maps but there are only two COs left for me to buy (Zak and Jugger). The only CO I've gotten to level 10 is Rachel (level 11) and my second highest level CO is Jake (level 7). I've mainly been focusing on the campaign but I've also managed to complete the brutal combat.

BTW, how do you unlock all the skills under the * for your COs? I have 3/5.

Now, discuss this great game and the Nintendo Wars series if you want. :)

I want it. How much more indepth does it go than the original?
Is it worth buying a DS just for this?

There are plenty of new units to play with compared to the original:
Neotanks (fast moving, powerful but expensive tanks)
Megatanks (Gigantic tank, can take out most other ground units in one shot but has very limited ammo and fuel, needs APCs for backup)
Stealth Bomber (When in stealth mode it can only be targeted by other stealth bombers and by fighters and can only be seen by enemies if they have a unit next to it. It's attack strenght is comparable to a neotanks. It's a right bastard to fight but it consumes tonnes of fuel while stealthed)
Aircraft Carrier (Can transport air units, refueling and restocking them in the proccess, great for stealth bombers. It also has an indirect-combat attack on air units)
Black Bomb (Very expensive air unit that self-destructs doing 5 damage to a wide area. It'll make a large hole in the enemy force but it'll make a large hole in your wallet too)
Piperunner (Very good artillery-type unit that has a large attack radius and high damage. It can target air and ground units. It has little health and can only move along properties and pipes)
Black Boat (naval unit that can repare any nearby unit 1HP and resupply them)

There are also added gameplay things such as being able to use two COs at once (and when both their CO power meters have filled you can Dual Strike, not only allowing you to use both their CO powers at once but also move all your units twice in one day)

Com towers are a new capturable building that give all units a firepower bonus when captured.

There are lots of new COs and all old COs (except Strum) are unlockable. The new story is a bit darker and less black-and-white. IMO the visuals are a good bit nicer looking too.

Riomhaiirrreee, Haichi is b0000rrrkeed! B0rked I say!

He's the ultimatee cheap-ass. I mean, on a large map, you can be 5 turns in and then suddenly OMG MED TANK RUSH FROM EVERY CITY HE CONTROLS.

The Dual Strike feature is incredibly useful. Can you say Eagle+Sami = One turn 37-square instant capture? Especially for HQs. Undefended HQs, too! That's why you need to leave AAguns on your HQ.

Well, I did. I mean, I got Nintendogs and Brain Training and whatnot, but really it was Dual Strike all the way. I do recommend you pick up both Phoenix Wrights and Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan, though.

Masters degree in what, and what will the children be named!? Comeon, don't be such a tease!
Astrophysics and the children will be named Wallace, Strum and Kane regardless of gender.

Oh yes :smoking:

There are some really unfair combos aren't there? Also, Sensei+Sami=WTFMEGACAPUTRE

Also, I forgot to mention earilier. There are Dual Screen battles on 2 fronts. Basicly you have to fight two maps at once. If you win on the secondary front then you get to have two COs on your main front and if you lose you get to fight two COs on the main front >_<

AW is one of the best games on the DS. I also recomend Metroid, it plays like a PC shooter, not a console and you can set up bot matches if you have no one to play.

BTW, who're your least favourite CO. I despise Drake, damn Tsunami (I'm also more of a fan of air units than naval so he doesn't suit my play-style)

Does this game have MP over Wifi capabilities?

I haven't played Advance Wars in so long. I'm about to hit that up.

Sound's like your planning on becoming a mad professor bent on world domination! Are you?

Damn you people. DS is charging, and AW is ready to go. I love this game. I'm on the mission 20 with the black obelisk. I haven't been able to beat it and other games came along and I haven't played in a while.

Thanks to you guys I can kiss my weekend goodbye. :)

If anybody remembers mission 20 and has any suggestions, please feel free to share.

It looks like great strategy game for DS.

Yeah. Multicard games can play the normal modes but you can only play battle mode with download play. You can also play a hotseat game with one DS, which you can, thankfully, save. Me and a mate were playing one game for about 2 weeks during the lunch break in school

That mission took me longer to get past than any others, it's a bastard. I also note that you say it's mission 20, for me it was mission 22, you haven't been capturing labratories, shame on you :p
Anyway, it's a bastard of a mission. Keep an eye on enemy infantry and be aware if they can Dual Strike you (tap X to change the top display to battlefield info). The worst part is the start. If you can hold off against the preliminary attacks and get the missles launched then the downfall of the obelisk should only be a matter of time. Also, keep an eye on the black cannon the whole time and don't forget to take it out. You can use your green team to do this although I used the blue team and a battleship. If you can't do it on your own you can probably find a good walkthrough on gamefaqs.com

Green must rush the missile silos on their side to prevent Black Hole even TOUCHING them. Use Recons if you must. If you build up on the Orange Star front then Black Hole will move their sole megatank to waste Orange Star. Just get the Missile Silos as fast as possible otherwise you will LOOOOooooSSEEeeEE!

holy **** that game looks bloody awesome. I might actually go out and buy it.

This brings back memories...

I never did beat the origonal. ARG. The last level is SOOO HAAARD.

I just finished that mission again. I built a transport chopper and infantry in the red base and used my artillery, med and light tanks to take care of the megatank (Thank god for the Woodsman and Pathfinder skills). I just built transport choppers (2) and infantry (many) out of my green base too and got them to the silos ASAP. I used my AA, missiles and T-choppers to occupy them when nessisary. I also used APC and infanty to intercept the mech for the silos south of the blue base (my artillery and tank damaged the med tank enough so it wasn't a threat and the neotank I built later finished it off. I was able to end the mission the turn after I destroyed the Black Onyx by using a dual strike (I had the faster power-meter skill too ^_^) to break the pipe and rush it with mah red neotank.
:)

Skillz b0rk the game, but it is amazingly fun to completely DOMINATE on fog of war maps with the vision and movement skillz (especially vs. Drake and... uh... Jugger?)

FINALLY got passed it. I was so happy to put that one behind me. This game has a fresh set of legs for me all of a sudden. I had the sattelite destroyed with 40 some miutes left. Laboratories you say? Didn't know about those. How do you find those and what do they do?

Also I remember you were purchasing maps and things. Can you buy new COs too or do they open up automatically? You mentioned someone that had a really good set of skills. I don't have them yet and I don't know if I'll open them up automatically or if I have to buy them.

You should pay attention to the dialoge :p
Some maps contain maps to Black Hole labratories in cetain cities (eg, Hawke's first appearance). If you capture the town you get to play out your next mission at a Black Hole labratory. When you win you get to build Black Hole units in later missions (ie, there is a mission to get Black Boats, one for Black Bombs and one for Piperunners)

You have to unlock the ability to buy them unfortunatly. Once you can buy them they'll be in your battle maps menu.

Skills are the same for all COs, you can set them to your COs depending on level. I was on my second playthrough of the campaign so I already had some high-level COs. You don't have to buy skills but there is a row of them that I think have to be unlocked somehow. I have 3 out of 5 of them, (capture +2, sight +2 and unit repair +2) I don't know how to get the other 2.

Finish on hard mode, foolish fool of a foolish fool who foolishly fools fools about fools.

...sorry. I've been playing too much Justice for All...

I tried to buy this on Saturday....well, NOBODY has it around here? Is it not released in US, or something? I don't want to have to order it online. :(

Nobody has it around here either :(

I know how hard it is to get the game, I'm pretty sure I got the second-last copy in Cork city.

Garr...I don't want to order it, because I forsee me wasting money. I don't own a DS, but a roommate does, and come summer, I'm splitting, and on my own. I won't have one, thus a game I can't play.

Then spend a lot of money on a DS. -_-

I dunno. Up to you, I guess.
